Convincing people that cruelty is strength was always at the heart of the conservative project. It was there when they wanted to starve the Irish and it’s still going strong.

One of my skeptic friends attended a flat earther conference and it was exactly this. Each one had their own earth shape theory the only rule was no one could agree with the conventional model.

Greg and FIRE have always tried to pretend they occupied an ideologically neutral position despite the clear evidence to the contrary. Same with the “heterodox” crowd more broadly.

The meaning crisis, and how we rescue young men from reactionary politics - The Skeptic In the US election, men overwhelmingly voted for Trump - he offered them the illusion of meaning in a world where their position is uncertain

I wrote on this same issue from the angle of meaning making after Trump was re-elected. I think these issues remain vital no matter how much the hypermasculine authoritarian leaders beclown themselves. We still need to provide an alternative.

I did! And I talk about how they’re very different. I prefer the show cause I think it’s more afropessimist at various points where I think the book is more white washed. And its portrayal of afrofuturism in episode 7 is better than anything in the book.
