My family would frequently bail on a movie just 20 or 30 minutes in, or disparage the plot, how unbelievable the characters were, how awful the writing was. I’m like .. hey, I’m trying to watch a movie here 🙂

And then I started writing, and ugh… I get it, now.

I kinda get the - i better impose some discipline or I'll never get anything done - idea. Intellectually. But creative things take what they take, yeah? Work a little, even just a few minutes, to quiet that part of your brain. But I think if you push too hard, you risk pushing the idea away.

The crunch was heart-stopping. I slammed the car into park and leapt out to find the table flattened, the pitcher on its side, my devastated daughters staring at the wreckage of their summer vacation plans. I gathered them into my arms, hugging them tight while their lemontations poured forth.
