Racism within Staffordshire County Council Why has racism become so endemic within Staffordshire County Council, and why are Biddulph County Councillors not coming out to stand against these disgusting views? I am very concerned that in our society, open racism and bigotry are becoming more acceptable, as though something has changed, which means abuse towards people for the colour of their skin, their religion, or place of birth is now fair game. This switch is most clear at Staffordshire County Council, where two leaders of the council have resigned from their posts in disgrace because of racist remarks, and a third councillor has been suspended. For those who are not aware, this is the timeline. At the start of December, the then Reform County Council Leader Ian Cooper was shown to have said about British lawyer and academic Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, “Dr Shag Big-Bong…Time she f’d off back to Nigeria. She’d feel more at home there”. He replied to Journalist Sangita Myska, saying “You are neither ethnically, culturally or historically English. Your diaspora isn’t NW European. All you have is a piece of paper entitling you to a British citizenship”. About David Lammy MP, he said, “He’s Caribbean, he says so himself. No foreign national or first generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament”. Finally, in a post in 2024, he claimed that migrants from the “global majority south” were “intent on colonising the UK, destroying all that has gone before”. Swipe → 2

After he resigned in disgrace and lost the Reform whip, with no comment disowning what he said, Reform Councillor Chris Large was next up to take the role of Leader at Staffordshire County Council. However, he resigned just days after starting the role when it was revealed his TikTok account was supporting racist remarks. On a video he made talking about David Lammy MP, he replied “Yep” to the comment “he’s eating himself all around the world, just another greedy non thoroughbred”. He also replied “True” on a separate post claiming David Lammy’s “heart [did] not belong to Britain” and that he was “not loyal to Britain”. He also liked a comment that said, “Anyone who’s not actually white English should never be trusted to work within our government.” It is important to note that he denies doing any of this on his TikTok account and condemns the content. New Reform Staffordshire County Council Leader Martin Murray thanked Cllr Large “personally” for his work after he resigned. New leader Martin Murray has said, “If anybody does anything untoward, in a racist way, in a detrimental way, I will come down on them hard, I will act swiftly, correctly and severely if anybody does.” Perhaps surprisingly, this has been put to the test already as Reform County Councillor Lynn Dean has been suspended from the party after posting in 2023 “If Africans are the most intelligent race on the planet, why are they so backward?” and replied to Britain First’s Ashlea Simon “Blacks have more than made up for what happened to other black in the past, with their violence and law breaking”. In December 2025, I contacted Biddulph’s Reform County Councillors Bob Egginton and Mike Broom to ask very simple questions. I asked whether they agreed with Cllr Cooper’s views, whether they knew of them, whether they had ever raised them as a concern, whether any policies were implemented against people due to his views, and whether they would be making any public statement against his comments. I have received no response. Why are they such difficult questions for our Reform County Councillors? If someone asked me if I agree that migrants were intent on colonising the UK, I would be able to say no, that is a ridiculous remark, people come here to build a good life for their family, or join their family here. You don’t understand the systematic destruction, exploitation, and murder of nations that the British carried out during colonisation. British colonialism killed 100 million people in India in just 40 years. Today, migrants pay more in taxes than they consume in public services. Compare the two and find out how important immigration has been to this country for decades. I think this is why the racism we see at Staffordshire County Council is so concerning, though. There have always been people with horrific views, but they were not always making decisions which decide on the future of people in Biddulph and Staffordshire. I don’t believe anyone who reads those comments can defend them in good faith, yet no other Reform Councillors will ever come out and say those comments are wrong, despite them being clear white supremacist views. If we don’t stand together as a community and make it very clear that racism and bigotry will not be tolerated in Biddulph, including to Cllr Egginton and Broom, who stay silent, this racism will become acceptable, and everyone in our communities will suffer as a result.
