The clouds that brought snow the night before were breaking up…and I enjoyed the contrast between the softness of those clouds and the hard edges of a building at the orchard.

This? Oh just a totally picturesque New England scene I saw last month.
It had snowed the night before and by early afternoon the sky was clearing, the sun was out, and the snow was melting. It was lovely and I felt right at home.

You might be one of the people who think an Irish fiddle group is out of place at a German restaurant. I would probably be with you on that, except that I saw/heard it for myself. And in context, it made perfect sense.

It was snowing when we got back from dinner. My companions, all of whom live in New England, just went to their rooms. They’d seen snow and this was just one more normal night for them.
I stayed outside and watched the snow, took some pictures, and got really cold.

I’m sure it’s lovely in the summer with the lights on and people and ice cream and sunburns.
But it is hard to improve on a foggy day with no one else around and a convenient opening in a fence that allows a photographer to step inside and enjoy the moment.

This was my second visit to Old Orchard Beach; I’d been there in mid-September when it was starting to shut down for the season. I was happy to get to go back again last month: it was foggy and quiet and lonesome.

The other day while I was wandering around Maine I pulled into a parking lot to check the map and find out where I actually was compared to where I was more or less heading. And I saw the remains of a Sears store.

It’s the end of the month, so I figure it’s time to move on from nighttime photos of Portland. I don’t know what I’ll post next. Maybe Portland in the daytime? Or Portland in the fog? Or Portland with daytime fog?
There are so very many possibilities.

Mammatus clouds are my favorite clouds ever…I saw these tonight after a celebration for my friend’s daughter who turned 22 today AND found out she was accepted into a PhD program.
I like to think the clouds were helping her celebrate!

My talented friend @vc.torneden introduced me to making monotypes…and I just can’t stop.
VC and I have our collaborative monoprint show - a new look at our Route 66 series - up through April 23 at the Charles Adams Gallery in Lubbock.
Me? Doing monoprinting? Def a plot twist!!

I made two shots of this wall; I didn’t care for the first one because it had a person’s shadow on it.
Turns out, I was wrong and could have stopped with the original image, because it was more interesting.

So what happened is that our hotel was right there in the Old Port and it was so easy to wander around, day or night, to look at things and take photographs.
This was a foggy night and the simple, unintentional beauty of the area turned itself into a little body of work.
