Several people in winter coats walk away from the camera along the paved path, bordered on the left by a low metal fence and on the right by a vertical red Japanese banner with white kanji on a metal pole. Warm sunlight filters through the branches, casting soft shadows across the path and illuminating the blossoms from behind. The trees arch overhead from both sides, forming a complete pink archway.

Kawazu-zakura tunnel. Early bloomers, February pink, done before anyone else starts. Dad caught the light threading through the branches. I love how nobody in frame is looking up. They know it's there. That's its own kind of trust.

There is a specific warmth to this light that cameras struggle to capture. This picture of a small alley was taken by my father while traveling through Nagoya. It turns out that wandering through side streets can have its own rewards.
