This one, a mature magnolia, still exists in my grandparents' courtyard. Each year my grandmother fastidiously cleans the fallen petals each morning. I have a picture of me sitting under it when I was 3 and have played as an adult with children under its branches.

What's a tree you've lived with? That has been important in your life? Maybe you climbed it as a kid, or did your laundry under it in college. It's strange that we don't photograph these creatures, who can lend such stability and depth to our lives, but disappear so easily, more often.

Sometimes, it will seem like you are so far down in the darkness, so tightly wedged and bleak, you have fallen into a crack, haven't you? On your side or half on your face, can't breathe freely or get that shoulder out, so sure you are doomed, total paralysis...

Closeup water...in streams of the right velocity you can find small whorls breaking off the edges of rocks and other debris when the surface is otherwise calm. Seen from the right angle, these deflector dishes can be very interesting to spend some time observing and photographing.
