As seen from Artemis 2, the Moon with an earthshine crescent eclipses the Sun, and four planets are visible to the lower right of the Lunar disk. These are Saturn, faint Neptune (which needs a pointer), Mars and Mercury
Here it is.👍🙂

Speaking of Threads, this one got me in the feels.
That sounds like an amazing program!
Are you an Artist in Residence for Xanterra? I’d love to hear more about the position and CD what you’ll be doing.
This is the coolest Earth photo I’ve ever seen. I love that it also includes aurorae over both poles, zodiacal light, stars and Venus. The window frame of the spacecraft makes you feel as if you are there.
We were just four people who happened to be much further south than the millions of others who took part that day.
Departing Ithaca NY for the Antarctic Peninsula. Both are visible in this sculpture outside the Ithaca airport. With luck, once there we will not get iced in for the winter, develop scurvy, and go mad in the darkness while our ship is slowly crushed by the ice.
Oh, I found out on my honeymoon that I get seasick. Like really seasick. But only for the first three days or so. This time I’ve got the scopolamine patches. Can’t wait to find out if they work on me.
My camera is all packed. Every time I’ve seen something new and amazing. I can’t wait to find out what it will be this time.
What a lovely memory. I love watching someone go through a lock. Usually I’m on my bicycle so I’ve never gotten to go through one myself.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. It’s always nice to hear my art strikes a chord with someone.
All packed for a long trip to Antarctica beginning tomorrow. Three years ago I started working with Oceanwide Expedition to plan astronomy-themed trips to Antarctica. Last year we successfully saw the Aurora Australis. Now I’m bringing my own tour along to experience the awe. #sciart #art #astronomy
The official NYS report on last years’ Erie Canal Bicentennial just came out. I got a mention in it for my poster: 20,000 free copies were given out at libraries and visitor centers across the state. You can still download one for free. #art edge.sitecorecloud.io/newyorkpowe2...
My liver’s delicious.
Going to grade school in Portland, OR it was the log-built Fort Vancouver across the bridge in Washington. We learned all about Capt Cook and his explorations which came in handy when I moved to Anchorage, AK and we learned all about him again.
Penguins leap into water in an illustration of massive icebergs in from of a snow-capped mountain. A small ship sits in the water among the icebergs as aurora stream overhead.
I know we’re already friends, but here’s a poster I created for a small expedition company I will be the expedition astronomer for for ten days starting this Friday.
That’s fantastic how things like that work out. She might even have been the person who first asked me to draw it 15 years ago or so.
Hey, I recognize my Voyageurs poster. It looks in good company.
Yeah, and it’s not like we didn’t get warnings.
I just went through a lot of chemotherapy cream on my face for numerous pre-cancerous spots. Growing up in Alaska I took every opportunity to get a suntan when traveling to the Lower 48 (mostly Oregon).
My dad managed sewage treatment plants. I grew up appreciating clean water, storm drains, and manhole covers set flush with the road bed.
Whenever you create something new and real you are creating art. #parkchat
Chaco Canyon was a place I only knew from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos until I discovered I could go there myself when I lived in Flagstaff.
Good choice and great photo. I knew that place well a long time ago when I worked at Lowell Observatory.
I love this. That’s definitely art and you can’t get more sense of a place than a road sign. #parkchat
Wow! That is a little overwhelming. No lie.
Totally agree. There was a guitar player I heard at a lodge in Glacier who sang about like in the Rockies and it just made being there perfect.
Now I’m off to frantically pack.
I loved Soarin’ Over California! That’s wonderful that it inspired you to go.
