A decade of free books. Our little free library turns 10 this month!

The doors were wood and acrylic 10 years ago but I replaced them with metal doors and sheet metal panels. The panels can be removed individually and repainted every time they get tagged.

After meeting some cuttle.xyz friends in person last month, I was finally inspired to try it out. Following @wolfcatworkshop.bsky.social's show-and-tell on parquet deformations, I made hexagon->bunny tiles.

I've been trying to incorporate these kind of morphing patterns into my drawings. This one takes an Isometric grid and adds a twist. When drawing on top of this grid the 3D view also twists along. It started as a digital sketch but the final was done with watercolors.

I decided to annotate several of these kinetic art pieces with specific materials and techniques. Check out the rest on this public Patreon post www.patreon.com/posts/kineti...
I'd also love to get more of your questions and suggestions.

Show and Tell: Making Escher-Style Morphing Patterns in Cuttle
Show and Tell: Making Escher-Style Morphing Patterns in Cuttle This is a Show and Tell video about making Escher-like patterns that metamorphose into other patterns using Cuttle's customized repetitions feature.Mentioned...

This exploration has unlocked a new level of making patterns for me.

I've always loved the type of Morphing Patterns M.C.Escher designed and here are a couple of methods for making similar things.

The video is not a tutorial but it shows how I arrived at the technique: youtu.be/eTlSAptcjwc?...

A short interview I did with Voyage LA magazine where you can learn among other things that:
* I once wanted to be a writer
* How living as an immigrant between two languages made me lean into making pictures
* How lucky I am to be surrounded by supporting people

More contrasting pages between grids and illustrations. I increased the line β€œwobble” on the grids and it makes it look like quilted fabric which I like. I had fun doodling the shapes coming out of the cat’s hand.
Also really digging that "Imperial Purple" by Daniel Smith.

This sketchbook page shows how I’m often pulled in two directions: geometric patterns and free hand-drawn forms. I wanted to see what I could do with a simple square grid, the lines are a little wobbly and the heavy granulating watercolors make it look more organic, I like that contrast.

I really like the way this drawing of our cat Shiro turned out. Sometimes these fast ink and watercolor sketches manage to capture the feeling with just a few gestures, they can feel almost like snapping a casual picture.

Simple Tree With Moving Leaves - Kinetic Kit | wolfCatWorkshop Get more from wolfCatWorkshop on Patreon

Looking for advice/recommendations:

I’ve been using Mailchimp for a while but I find it a bit heavy handed and clunky for my use case. And I want something simpler.

Thinking about TinyLetter or Substack (though I don't intend to charge for it).

What do you think, any other options you like?

The watercolor blobs come first - as random as possible and often with some colors I’m interested in mixing. Then I fill in the shapes with a black pen. It feels odd to outline watercolors so hard but I like that they are little self contained windows of weirdness.

I’m a little overwhelmed with the current explosion of social media platforms so I decided I’m going to go back to the basics for a little bit. I’ll be posting pictures of my sketchbook(s) the way I used to do.
Here are some birds and weird characters drawn with multicolor pencil and watercolors:
