A book called The Little Book of Fairies by Carolyne Larrington, published by the British Library. It has a purple band down teh side and an old fashioned fairy painting of a very elaborate green fairy. It looks like it might be a stage costume. Victorian? Older? I'm not sure, I'll have to read the book to find out!

Original art for a picture book by Erika Meza. It shows a girl with light brown skin and long dark brown plaits, wearing a pink dress and white trainers. The text at the bottom reads, "...The hero will be ME." It's in a frame on the wall of the exhibition.

The Fairy tales exhibition at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social is immense fun. Lots for adults, lots for small children (less for medium children, but they might consider themselves too old for fairy tales anyway, even tho they're not). Came away with a book - @profcarolyne.bsky.social's on fairies

Happy publication day to @mhayinde.bsky.social's Dance of Broken Blades, the much anticipated sequel to A Song of Legends Lost (which we loved!)

Pick up this series if you like epic fantasy full of rebellion and revenge, great worldbuilding, tech/ancestral magic systems & fantastic characters!

I've noticed that!

We do sometimes have a few bigger format paperbacks, and some cute smaller-than-normal hardbacks, but generally yes they're all this size.

Self-published paperbacks are often larger, interestingly. I wonder if that's because the companies are from the States originally?

It's ace day! 🖤🤍💜 In case you didn't know, I'm a biromantic asexual, much like the main character of my Echo Archives series, the badass but tired new mom Kembral Thorne, who would love to have fun at this party but is stuck in a murder time loop with her cat burglar nemesis instead

I do try, when I have time! Often because the spines aren't all legible in these photos (thanks, overly shiny finishes).

Good choices!

After a little think, I guess the collective terms for books all seem to be based on how they're stored: a library, stack, shelf, pile. Maybe a collection is the broadest term.

And, er, one keeps up by being very picky, and yet still having an enormous TBR...

Buffalo Hunter Hunter is excellent horror (and gory, and harrowing) and deals with the era at the beginning of the USA (so it is historical, but I've found myself wanting to know more about the early history of the States in the last few years, given, well, *gestures at everything in the news*)

Jitterbug should be fun scifi with big ideas (ai ships, justice in space, future tech) judging from the author's previous work.

Moreno-Garcia always seems to write interesting multi-layered books (usually more gothic than outright horror), and Bewitching comes right up to the modern day.

Don't be fooled by the folklore and flowers- this is a really beautifully written debut that navigates love, obsession, floral biohorror, and bodily consent and dread, with some psychologically dark themes...

Honeysuckle by @barfridmantell.bsky.social is new out this month: an intoxicating, unsettling gothic reimagining of the Welsh myth Blodeuwedd.

Wynne makes her brother a playmate, a girl woven from flowers and words. He grows attached, but at season's end the flowers begin to wilt...

A banner reading "introducing the rottenheart Waterstones special edition". A picture of the book with sprayed red edges on a dark red background.
There's a random arrow on the banner pointing right from the book, as if the graphic designer forgot to remove it, or was going to add something and forgot, or maybe it's just indicating the direction you read a standard book in, in case people don't know.

From @katalicedunn.bsky.social, author of Hungerstone, comes a dark, sapphic chiller inspired by Hamlet, as the uneasy spirit of the dead Lydia seeks revenge for her passing...

Guess who forgot that both buses and bookshop don't get started until later than normal on Good Friday?

Currently having an unexpectedly relaxed morning with actual breakfast and a handsome cat for company.
