It still brings me a ton of joy. A little rebellion against browser vendors, AI, and industry practices.

Noticed yesterday as my website was being flooded with accesses from HN that I couldn't use a `tmux` session over ssh using Ghostty.

Posted a long rant about #Apple and how they lost me after being a user for 26 years:

My #iPhone updated to the latest version. With it came #ageverification. Apple does this by having Wallet verify you. It failed. Then it tried to manually verify credit card. All my cards were not accepted. I tried five cards. Now I am locked out of many features. I am 45 years old. Fuck this shit.
Each day for a month, @vallescurarule.bsky.social & I posted a snippet from the 30 subgenres & major tropes in SPEC FIC FOR NEWBIES VOL 3. You can find the full ToC for this final stand-alone writing guide of the trilogy on @lunapress.bsky.social's site: www.lunapresspublishing.com/product-page...

Really struck a cord with me and made me smile this morning. Choose decentralization technologies. Build for humans.
They could have done it from the start and yet, they'll never do. Apple is in the business of selling "experiences" (whatever that mean) and they generate this artificial storytelling in which iOS, iPadOS, and macOS are actually different things cause reasons. It sucks.

Em 2023 eu fui contratado como head of accessibility na Yape, o maior app de pagamentos do Peru, para iniciar o trabalho de tornar o bagulho acessível a leitor de tela.
That never worked for me. I like small screens, they help me focus, having too much screen real state makes me quite distracted. I posted a bit about my love of small computers and going to coffee shops in the past:

Today, after months, I sat for the first time at my desk. As a remote worker, I'm usually working from coffee shops, sofas, my bed, my kitchen table, but never from my actual desk.
It feels strange to be here and good at the same time. Might buy a monitor for it soon. x
Also, imma be that person and ask if you've listened to A Million Points of Light and can rate and review it, I will love you forever, from afar, not creepily.

argh, those new colours for MacBook Neo's are uninspired as fuck. Apple played way too safe with the selection. You can have boring corporate-person-in-training silver, indigo, and pink, or baby-puke worst yellow. They could have gone with some vivid colours (including a vibrant yellow).
oh gods, I think I'm gonna learn Rust...
RSS doesn't necessarily means firehose. You find that you wanna use a feed reader but having a constant stream of posts causes you anxiety? I wrote about alternatives that might suit you:

a digital collage with a pink, purple, green, yellow, and teal gradient overlaid on all the images. the images include a horse carrying a bucket, a cluster of mushrooms, a grub, a birds talon, a cicada, five spiders, two flower buds, a hand with an eye over the back of it, and a microscope slide of atoms. there is white text that reads "get weirder or die miserable." the background is black and there is a slightly grainy texture

this focus on AI is the opposite of the Mozilla I want. Spent years volunteering and giving my time to that org, to see it putting resources on AI of all things makes me quite frustrated.
Mozilla used to stand for "Internet for the people, by the people".
Pinned lizzie johnson @lizziejohnsonnn · Aug 19, 2021 Almost three years ago, my editor called me early one November morning. A wildfire had sparked near a town called Paradise, he said. Could I go? (1/13) 0:02 / 0:10 lizzie johnson @lizziejohnsonnn · 47m I was just laid off by The Washington Post in the middle of a warzone. I have no words. I'm devastated. Quote lizzie johnson @lizziejohnsonnn · Jan 25 Waking up without power, heat, or running water. (Again.) But the work here in Kyiv continues. Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp.
A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world
A masc mannequin adorned with a beautiful paneled corset in blue and black. A high stock collar in black and sharp angled seams highlight the idealized masculine form (“the Dorito”). The blue woven fabric of the front panels contrast with large golden embroidered flowers, most of which trail down the v neck and the left side. Closures are silver metal, laced internally.
I’m sorry, I just need to share that today I learned about Sylvain Niffer, who does men’s corsetry and oh my GOD these are beautiful

1 [Scene is a GREGGS interior. A lone MAN, the only customer in the shop, is standing at counter] MAN: Please can I have a sausage roll. 2 GREGGS SHOP ASSISTANT: Certainly sir [She pulls a leaver on the panini machine and WOOSH the man disappears through a trapdoor]. Whoosh 3 [The MAN appears through a chute in an underground bunker. A voice from off-scene greets him]: Welcome, friend 4 [We see the voice is of a military-looking resistance COMMANDER with a moustache] COMMANDER: You said "please can I have" instead of “can I get”… So now you're one of us. 5 MAN: W-where am I ...? [We see him looking at a hi tech UNDERGROUND MILITARY BUNKER - it has resistance vibes, and has lots of screens with maps etc] 6 COMMANDER: You've joined the resistance… ...against people saying things all American. 7 COMMANDER: We are an underground network of sleeper agents poised to have a right go at young people the moment they say "mom" or "bangs”. 8 LIEUTENANT [Staring at screen]: Agent 244 has just given a Zoomer in Halifax the “could/couldn't care less" speech, sir COMMANDER: Very good 9 [Show the map of the UK with digital pop ups on it saying ‘GOTTEN’, ‘ZEE’, ‘MATH’ etc COMMANDER: You may have heard our name... We are... 10 COMMANDER: ...the Fight Against New Yankee Pronunciations and Americanisms Corrupting the King's English! 11 [Show the military command center panel. Hey @bsky.app , what a new low to have a verified #ICE account. That is despicable. While the world is horrified at those gestapo wannabe’s, you’re here being part of the problem. Shame on your decision makers lack of backbone.
This was a really good blog post on the reasons to write a blog and how the challenges of making one parallel the knowledge crafting and distribution during the enlightenment.
