The Eagle Nebula's overall shape is thought to resemble an eagle with outstretched wings. The integration time was 15 hrs. I captured it with my Askar FRA500 telescope and ASI2600MC Duo camera.

M81 Bodes Galaxy and M82 Starburst Galaxy. Located in the Ursa Major constellation around 12 million lightyears away.
As we head out of winter, our night sky is looking away from nebulas within our milkyway. Instead we're looking out into the universe. Here we can observe other galaxys. This is M81 and M82. I was observing these through our big observatory scope a few nights ago. #astrophotography #astronomy #wow
Visible before sunrise, the Andromeda Galaxy, see my #Astrophotography below, rises as a vast island universe some 2.5 million light-years away — the most distant object visible to the naked eye, containing hundreds of billions of stars. #Andromeda #M31 #Astronomy

Earth from space, with a very bright arc on its bottom right edge from the sun illuminating it, and little green and red arcs of aurora at the poles.
I downloaded the high-res version of this amazing picture from the Artemis crew and did a little edit to make it look more like what the astronauts might actually see!

Artemis II appears as a short streak in this 30 second image taken 12 hours ago at 15:35 UT (2 April 2026). JPL Horizons was used to compute the position of the spacecraft every few minutes, thus enabling it to be found using plate solving. 🔭

Photograph of the yellow orange Artemis II rocket held between white towers, holding it in place, firmly until launch time. The view is from the bottom, looking up and in the far distance right hand corner, you can see the moon in the pake afternoon blue sky. The moon hovers pale and silvery, the long-term destination for NASA's Artemis program
"Go for Launch!"
In less than 3 hrs, Artemis II begins the sexiest, coolest, spaciest drive-by since 1972.

Black-and-white photograph of Swedish physician and researcher Nanna Svartz as an older woman. She is seated in a laboratory, wearing a white lab coat with a dark bow at the neck, and smiling directly at the camera. Her left hand rests on a large vintage microscope in front of her, with books, papers, and lab equipment visible in the background.
Physician Nanna Svartz invented Salazopyrine (1941), a drug still used today to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's & more.
In 1937, she became the first female professor for medicine & at a public university in #Sweden (Karolinska Institute). She died #OTD in 1986.

Close-up photograph of Dr. Jane Goodall and a chimpanzee sharing an intimate moment outdoors. Goodall, an older woman with gray hair in a ponytail and wearing a striped collared shirt, has her eyes closed and mouth open as if vocalizing. The chimpanzee, with dark fur, has its head tilted back and mouth wide open, one hand resting gently on her shoulder.
Dr. Jane Goodall was born #OTD in 1934
She was a primatologist, anthropologist & conservationist regarded as the world’s foremost expert on wild chimpanzees. Her field research revolutionized our understanding of primates & redefined what it means to be human.

A black-and-white photograph of astronomer Dr. Dorrit Hoffleit (1907–2007), a pioneering variable star researcher and co-author of the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, seated at a wooden desk in a dimly lit observatory or office. She is a middle-aged woman with short, neatly styled dark hair, wearing a patterned geometric blouse or dress with a textured, abstract design. Dr. Hoffleit smiles warmly and directly at the camera with a gentle, engaged expression. In front of her rests a large binocular microscope (likely for examining photographic plates of stars), its eyepieces and adjustment knobs clearly visible, positioned on the desk surface. The background shows wooden paneling and faint outlines of shelves or equipment, evoking the scholarly, hands-on environment of mid-20th-century astronomy. The image captures her dedication, intellectual curiosity, and significant contributions to stellar astronomy, including cataloging thousands of variable stars and advancing women's roles in the field.
🔭 Astronomer Dr. Dorrit Hoffleit is best known for her work in variable stars, astrometry, spectroscopy & meteors.
She was the compiler/editor of the most significant revisions to the Yale Bright Star Catalog, a standard reference in the field. She was born #OTD in 1907. #WomenInSTEM #astronomy
