“Now You Are Like a God”
— Jill McDonough

Sometimes we show love simply by lending a hand. We help one another, then move on into the rest of our lives.

Thank you to everyone who took a chance and played yesterday’s poem-naming game with me! 🏆

The title of David Woo’s poem is “Gay Marriage.”

Thank you for playing the name game and giving us the rationale for your title choice, Juan. I’ll post the poem’s title tomorrow. ☺️

Read some poetry instead, K. It’s beautifully therapeutic.

Thank you, Sam. That’s the best kind of humor, don’t you think? George Carlin was similarly talented.

Given a few of the references in the poem, I’m not surprised, Rick.

I do, as well. Hard work, sustained composure, more hard work — right into her 90’s — having lost her husband and two of her four children.

Wet snow started falling a few minutes ago in western Maine. The forecast calls for a couple of inches. On Friday we’re expecting sunshine and 60 degrees. That’s spring in New England! 🤗

I’m equally fascinated by people’s responses. You’re welcome to offer your second title as well, Shiboof. 🤗

Agreed, David. It’s not a “Dickinsonian” poem. 😉

Read this poem by David Woo a few (or several) times. What would you call it if it were yours? I’ve put four options in the Alt text, one of which is Woo’s title. Does one resonate with you?

Will you play a naming game with me? I’ve been pondering the significance of titles. Some poems do not have titles, but those that do are purposefully given their particular names by their authors, and we are to be guided in our understanding by those names.
