The difference between where I was

A deep blue October sky with hazy thin clouds, mirrored on the calm surface of a large lake below. A few coarse surfaced gray boulders and dozens of small leafy green aquatic plants break the still surface, mostly near the shores in front of us and to our right. The forest surrounding the lake has barely started turning autumn colors with the exception of a stand of maples on a small island straight ahead, and several more maple clusters along the far shoreline to our left. These are decked out in bright oranges and golds.

Beneath a gray April sky we are walking across a wooden footbridge. A dirt and gravel footpath leads through a grove of tall, graceful pine trees. It has been raining lightly. The bleached and weathered wooden bridge is darkened by the rain, although the end section below the pines is mostly dry.

A bright sunny day. A wide brook in a shallow ravine makes a long, graceful S curve through a forest of mostly leafless trees. Some still have last season's golden brown leaves. The rocky forest floor is covered with golden brown leaves that fell last autumn. Patches of bright green moss and ground hugging green ferns add some color. The crystal clear brook waters are churning through and around many boulders in the shallow bed, creating small rapids that sparkle in the brilliant sunshine.

The sun is close to setting, a large shapeless bright blob of pale yellow shining through bands of thick haze and thin clouds, casting a dim light.
