Into Whooperland

Quickie Review. Silver Medal, Nature Category. "Into Whooperland"

Over a 4-year period, Michael Forsberg followed whooping cranes, spending hours in blinds, including one stay that lasted eight days. Altogether, Into Whooperland is an inspiring work of art.

The Oxbow (1836). This is one of Thomas Cole's famous outdoor paintings. In this highly symbolic painting, Cole looks down from a wilderness to an oxbow in a river valley below. Our view, from above, is just behind one of Cole's favorite forms: a windswept and battered tree.
