Bridging Loughborough Gap to create an 18-mile heritage railway I once described the the Great Central Railway – Nottingham as  a bit of a mystery to those of us in Leicestershire. Rather like the Easter...

The GCR in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire are separated by 500 yards of missing bridges and embankments at Loughborough. In this video Tim Dunn looks at the project, already well under way, to close that gap.

Today the arrival of #NaoSantaMaria in London was giving *serious* Monty Python Accountan-sea vibes. But it did feel unfair to ask if the Crimson Permanent Assurance crew was aboard, as even on this replica Columbus ship, NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition. (It’s here all month*, open for tours)

Looks like the 210 doors and the tartan ish moquette follows as the units went to Scotland for a bit . Pretty sure the video is filmed on GWML hence HSTs, a London bus depot and I think the west Drayton sidings with wagons in, as well as Paddington. Easy train & route to book from production/BR POV!

person outside cities might never knowingly meet another unless they went by train. Trains have been the way so many lgbtq ppl travel to seek others like them, acceptance, a home. One gay friend who grew up in isolated NE, doubts quite genuinely that without the railway, he’d still be alive today.

No it doesn’t miss the point at all. The song screams in the heart of so many ppl - esp gay men. it screams in mine. We are always running, never settling, wary of each stop, forever looking for a destination and a place that we can belong. This 1984 song is pre-internet. Back then a young lgbtq…

As we hurtle north, autumn seemingly surrenders and Home Counties hills fall away. Sun flickers and flashes through the carriage catching faces, drawing them westward. For a lingering moment, an entire train is lost in thought. Then, we tilt. Darkness falls, & we return to our lives. #TravelByTrain

#TravelByTrain –the “I’m so proud of my friends” edition. Yesterday, a friend since we were kids working at Bekonscot Model Village arranged for me to join him at work: in the cab of 50008 “Thunderer” across southern England. He’s living his dream & he generously shared it with me. Thank you, Mikey.
