We're celebrating today another amazing update on our ongoing partnership with cozy ocean cleanup game Spilled! from developer Lente! ⛵
Since release almost a year ago, Spilled! has raised over €11,000 for @whalesorg.bsky.social with $0.10 from every copy sold donated to WDC. 🐋
473 creatures were found alive and trapped in this gear, all of which were cut free and released back into the ocean.
108 spider crabs. 14 lobsters. 1 nursehound shark, which can grown up to 1.6m in length!
155 marine creatures were found dead within the discarded ghost gear.

World Ocean Day 2025 - You funded 10 diving missions to help clear the ocean of ghost gear
Ghost gear is fishing gear that has been lost or abandoned at sea, and is no longer under control of the fisher. It's a menace to whales, dolphins and other marine life.
5 projects launched in 2025 to clear the ocean of discarded fishing gear. 7 days spent underwater removing discarded fishing equipment. 41 volunteers who dedicated their time to make the ocean a cleaner and safer place.
1 tonne of nets and ropes recovered from the ocean floor.
Today we’re sharing an update on our efforts to remove ghost gear from the Ocean. Ghost gear is any fishing equipment that has been abandoned, lost or discarded at sea. These on-going efforts were funded by our 2025 World Ocean Day Fest! 🌊
