That’s so cool that you’ve been watching Craig! You’d have a blast photographing those canyons with B&W. There are so many areas with such wonderful contrast and shape that’s well suited for B&W.

I found this scene in deep shade near the entrance of a slot canyon. To me the leaf looked like a sailor lost at sea. The frothy foreground texture of rain drops in the sand adds to the feeling of turbulent seas.

Whenever I see the word “Flatiron”, I read it as “Falitron” — which sounds more like a Transformer.

For scenes like this, a bit of front tilt is required. Combine that with stopping down a bit, and I get most everything in focus. This was taken at f/45 on a lens that stops down to f/90.
