Obviously the ceasefire (if real/holds) is a good, ending needless suffering, but I can’t feel too jubilant now, thinking of what a monumental waste of innocent human life this entire pointless escapade was, and how likely it is that nobody will be even slightly punished for this murderous calamity.

Just because you didn't see the mad rush of diplomacy to prevent Trump's genocide doesn't mean the diplomacy didn't happen.

Trump needs to be impeached but, remember, his replacement will be Vance. The face will change but the regime will remain.

People say "you just pay tax to the IRGC". the IRGC is considered a terrorist organisation by the EU and US. If a ship owner pays "toll" he is in violation of sanctions. He will need clarification by the EU/US about this

And DO NOT let bigot trump and scared MAGA claim he lowered gas prices when they were already decreasing before he went to war with Iran.

Recklessly producing and then accepting a situation where a foreign power can restrict freedom of navigation is not just a strategic defeat, it is a reversal of the most fundamental foreign policy and national security priority of the United States since the founding of the republic.

I have observed that many of the men who are most strident about social justice issues don’t treat women in their lives with basic respect.

It gets better. We, the entire rest of the world which buys fuel shipped through the Strait, will get to pay money to the Iranian regime *in compensation* for the damage the US and Israel have done.

Slow clap. 10/10 no notes. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/06/w...

Memories:

In 2016, Obama purchased 32 metric tons of Iran's excess heavy water for $8.6 million to help it stay within its allowed stockpile limits. Not only was that an excellent price, but he didn't have to go to war to get it. Diplomacy and cooperation can do wonders without murdering kids.

On a sunny Monday morning, the president spoke to the children about eggs and war.
“They said normally, when you’re in very hostile territory — and I don’t think it gets much more hostile than Iran. They’re capable fighters,” said President Donald Trump, describing the mission to rescue the crew of a F-15E fighter shot down in Iran to an audience of hundreds of children dressed in pastel dresses, bow ties and bunny ears. “Where a pilot’s shot down, in most instances, you’re really not able to go in, because you’ll go in with 200 people and lots of jet fighters and helicopters, and you really don’t have a chance. They get shot down. You lose 200 in order to pick up one, it’s a horrible thing.”

It was the White House Easter Egg Roll, an annual tradition dating back to the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes. The White House’s columns were festooned in red, white and baby-blue plaid and accented with white floral arrangements. A bunny dressed in matching plaid stood beside the president, unblinking, as Trump detailed his accomplishments: “We had a dead country. We had an administration that didn’t know what the hell they were doing. Today, we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. We’re respected by everybody.”
On to the eggs, then.

Plenty of reasons for 25th Amendment, but we shouldn't ignore how a geriatric president spent the WH Easter Egg Roll talking at children about losing hundreds of troops and our "dead country."

We've known for years he's mentally unfit. Now it's just so naked.

Your reminder that even if the war truly ended tonight, and Iran let every tanker sail through the Strait tomorrow, oil does not teleport, wells have been shut down and will take weeks or months to reopen, storage facilities have been destroyed, and refining capacity has been significantly damaged.

Before Donald's war, Iran did not control the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil tankers moved freely.

After Donald attacked, Iran cut off travel through the Strait.

Gas prices rose sharply.

Under the ceasefire Trump just negotiated, Iran still controls the Strait.

Art of the Deal? 🤡

Also worth remembering that after losing a (very shaky) majority in 2008, liberals were in the wilderness for 15 years. But they kept fighting and reclaimed a majority in 2023. Taking the long view is important.
