I feel an ideal, but realistic one (ie schools should be able to meet) is:
Annual book budget of $20-$30/student or $5000, whichever is more
Database/tech budget of $10/student
Also a budget for supplies & programming ($3-$10/student)
& furniture budget at least every 10 yrs

A8: POWER!!!
There are not enough outlets for a modern world. I want access to power--but also not ugly.
I think creating a rotating schedule (and budget) for replacing furniture, tech, etc would be how to keep the space evolving and fresh.
And access to power.

A8: Wellllll.....my current space is stuck in the '80s. I would love to ensure that there are sufficient charging spaces in the library for my students' devices, more virtual display spaces (like screens for slides), and more flexible seating #TLSkyChat

A8 #TLSkyChat I think having flexible seating is important. The furniture I have bought can move easily & be reconfigures. The older kids really like this space to chat, hang out, read & play card games.
A7: First, I would like to raise my budget to match reality of book pricing now not when the state code was created (the late 80s). So instead of $8 per enrolled student, I would like closer to $30.
Second, I'd like an actual budget line for furniture/space maintenance & additions.

A6 #TLSkyChat I really don’t know. We get a reasonable budget for books & library supplies but any design changes need to come from school funds. I think I would need a sizable grant for new tables & chairs.
They also are terrible at estimating book shelving #TLSkyChat
At my first library there was an enclosed courtyard. One year a duck laid eggs. Every year since they have come back and laid eggs. The ducklings have to be escorted out through the school each year to the outside through the front doors. #TLSkyChat

A6 #TLSkyChat We have a door to one of our outdoor spaces (the K’s call it the library’s backyard🫶). I would love a story area out there or portable furniture to take to make a story area.

A6: I would love an outdoor learning space. I think having an outdoor enclosure, like a courtyard, would be amazing to have a mobile circ desk at so kids can be outside reading in the sun. My library has no windows, and I know I would be wayyyy happier outside #TLSkyChat
A5 #TLSkyChat Blinds on a remote control. I have tons of windows but opening & closing the blinds all day is a pain!!!!

A5: I would love a rounded circulation desk, almost like the "macaroni" tables in elementary schools. I feel like it would be more efficient to have a rounded circ desk that my student and I can move more naturally around. #TLSkyChat

I am getting, by request, cabinets on wheels that go under the counter in my workroom in our refurbished space. Then I can roll the stuff to be used in them out and gain another working countertop!

A5: Organization tools of of all types. Enough cupboards and places to put things. Bins, boxes, and all things #TLSkyChat
I have a table that is separated from the main area for teachers to use & the students are so clueless. That bring the art supplies to that table & have a ball while the teacher is sitting there working. I have to tell them to find another area. Walls are definitely needed. #TLSkyChat
A4: Zoning & separation of spaces. I also think my library would be multiple rooms!!
