I know the mythos mostly from the Lovecraft-related entries in Robert Anton Wilson’s encyclopedia of conspiracy theories, Everything Is Under Control, which discusses the Necronomicon and the Campus Crusade for Chthulu, among other things. #CineMon

Thanks, @sonofkaras.bsky.social ! I was confused by how semi-familiar this was until I saw online it was remadr as one of the segments of Asylum! Will need to rewatch without that confusion! #CineMon

@sonofkaras.bsky.social Thanks for selecting/hosting😊. "Thriller" at its creepiest! Is Horror Movie Classics just an online site or is it also an actual cable channel?🤔 #cinemon

"Casablanca" is possibly a distant second in this category. "Usual suspects","beginning of a beautiful friendship", "we'll always have Paris","here's looking at you, kid". Many more😊 #cinemon

"Hamlet" has more quotable lines than any other work of fiction. Lines and expressions that are still often quoted,400 years after it was written. Is really quite amazing🙂 #cinemon

This story and most of the Lovecraft Mythos were initially published in Weird Tales magazine. I just need to get my hands on an omnibus of that first 30+ year run and consume it. My access to stores that were "of the devil" as a kid even at the library was... minimal for where I lived. #Cinemon

Have been a few horror film inspired by Lovecraft. "The Dunwich Horror"(1970) with Dean Stockwell was pretty good, with some chilling scenes. More recently "Into the Mouth of Madness" with Sam Neill (I haven't seen this one). And there are others #cinemon

👍Henry Jones was a fine actor. Very versatile🙂 #cinemon

My favorite work of Shakespeare, and that's where most of my literary background is. I can tell Lovecraft draws from some of the same concepts and wish I'd read more of that material growing up. #Cinemon

Certainy possible. Jones had likely hundreds of credits in movies and tv. He was in almost everything. Is rather odd that he never showed up in an episode of Star Trek. He was in "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" twice as the time traveling Mr. Pym #cinemon

The duality of Bloch I've found in reading about how he wrote, leaning back and forth between sci-fi/occult fiction and psychology. We start with a pentagram circle and then end up with a battered tailor's wife and his fitting dummy as her only confidant. #Cinemon

Hamlet - "There are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy".If I had a motto which encompassed everything I feel about the Universe, and humans place in it,this would be it. Have had several experiences which lie outside the "box" that we supposedly exist in... #cinemon

I'm still weirded out by it, but it's not exactly a new concept of mortals born with the audacity to seek immortality by any means necessary and believe they're entitled to it. #Cinemon

Man, Hans is definitely uncanny.

If you've never seen "Paths of Glory",it's one of Stanley Kubrick's first - and finest - films. His first collaboration with Kirk Douglas (following this was the legendary "Spartacus"). "Paths" is considered by many to be,perhaps, the greatest antiwar film ever made #cinemon

Uh-oh.

The "voice" I wrote told Man that he could accept the truth or not, to consider that voice a lying angel or a devil telling the truth. Then I find this episode and the "voice" sounded more like an Old One. Just one story on a long list of metaphysical things in my life lately.

H.P.Lovecraft was - and continues to be - a HUGE influence on horror fiction - both written and in movies/tv. His concepts of Old Ones awakening still fires the imagination. And chills the blood...😨 #cinemon

I actually gave Ritual to a friend a few years back and it wasn't too bad. I don't remember where I got it, though. #cinemon

When I ran across this episode and researched into Lovecraft lore a little, which I hate to admit is not something for which I have much experience, it was a little frightening how Lovecraftian this "voice" was before the fact, laughing at the philosophy of mortal significance. #Cinemon

@sonofkaras.bsky.social Henty Jones was ubiquitous in 1960s tv. Scifi fans may remember him as the rascally Mr. Pym in "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" #cinemon
