I want to emphasize that we did not lope fast enough to blow my hair back, but there were other people & horses in the way as well as the obstacle course...but I did it! Perfectly! I have never cantered a horse in such a cluttered space successfully before.
Horsegirl Tuesday: Victory! I got Stick to lope in that crowded obstacle course & Sherry said I looked good. We did the usual backing out of tight spaces around corners, opening the gate, walking thru trash hazards, all the normal fussy stuff, but I am really focused on leg position & spur. #horses
Wonderful scene
Horsegirl Sunday: I cleaned 11 stalls and then hurried home to shower and put on a dress for the first time in a year. Happy Easter! Sierra and Maggie are still not feeling well, so they are on Colic Watch. Since I have extra time this week I will put in more time at this therapy stables. #horses
Also I need to do more of this. My Tuesday equitation lessons never blow my hair back or build my muscles enough.
Horsegirl Saturday: Back on Buck, who was in a VERY happy mood due to wind blowing from the desert all morning. Horses get excited in wind, so he took off running at one point & I kept my seat. It was fun, but the instructors prefer I stay safe. That was the fastest I've ever seen him go. #horses
You just reminded me to get an oil change.
I have that exact pen.
Oh shit, no….
Eddie, this is very concerning. Do you have friends locally?
Tweet: [mysterious old lady flips tarot card revealing a dude who looks exactly like me flying a hot air balloon into power lines] Me: is that good
Horsegirl Wednesday: Finally rained last night, but the morning was just warm & humid as I cleaned stalls. The city has once again not emptied our big dumpster so we loaded the wheelbarrows & lined them up for later. I've considered working there for real but the porta-potty makes this a No. #horses
Same. This is also why "negging" never worked on me, I just see someone picking on me like my bullies did, and leave.
We just walk & trot these intensive lessons, but there is so much to figure out that I am often overwhelmed with What To Do. My body is used to Git 'Er Done style riding, & that does not fly with Sherry or her super-trained horses. To think I was kicking ass a year ago on the thoroughbred. Wow.
Horsegirl Tuesday: Sherry has my brain full of new information, everything is questioned. I just learned (again) how to post the trot Sherry style, wherein you barely leave the saddle, just rock your pelvis. And reining is once again Not How I Was Taught so now I am relearning that. #horses #humbled
Poor Scott. He died two years ago in May, he will always be 60.
Pole dancing starfish.
I have ridden quarter horses, mustangs, a thoroughbred, all sorts of grade horses, but never an Icelandic. Never a Gypsy or a Haflinger either. Never ridden a Fjord. I need to know what I am missing, is it fun?
Horsegirl Sunday: I cleaned every single therapy horse stall, instead of going to church, so now I am covered in a fine dust. The flies were bad, but I got my huff & puff exercise & Stacy was there. She said last week one of the volunteers got to ride Sonny the Icelandic & now I am jealous. #horses
No riding lesson this weekend, due to some gymkhana event taking over the stables. Once again, owning or leasing a horse would get me around this ongoing problem. At least Sherry teaches out of her backyard & never has to cancel...but she will not sell one of her #horses. 7 out of 21 are mustangs.
Yeah, I am not being paid to do this job. And they gave me the option of other volunteer activities- nope, I want to scoop horse crap. I want to sweep stall mats. My core and leg muscles are epic. Folding fliers in their office would never make that happen, pushing the wheelbarrow up that hill does.
Not very well. I like snowy mountains just for existing.
My idea of paradise.
HorseGirl Wednesday: I am worn out tired. Two hours farm work and I am DONE...Sierra is back and the new Icelandic mare is here to stay so that means two more stalls to clean. Not like I am complaining, but dang did I earn that matcha latte afterwards. #horses
For instance, the way to tie a rope halter? I was taught to make a D after you put the rope end thru the loop end. Nope, it's wrong. Make it upside down instead so that the new knot is below the loop knot. So I had to unlearn the too.
Horsegirl Tuesday: Rode Biscuit again & we did our pattern & she was nice and compliant. It's me that needs to unlearn. Like when we lunged her in the round pen, it was very different from the way Brina taught me- different cues, different energy. Biscuit has a lot to forgive but we did it. #horses
The massive heat dome has moved on for now, so my riding lesson tomorrow will not bake my head. I took on some extra shifts at Real Job so there is no time for chai. Prayers for rain are not working, we need Bob to put out his totems...at least that worked in Texas. #wowreference
I always loved your art.
