I'm always thinking about @halperta.bsky.social's lineage activity and ways we can set visible reminders at work.

I'm thrilled to have @skeuomorphpress.org and @wolfproofpress.com prints hanging in my cubicle. Love having the words of @megsmith.bsky.social and Le Guin on display with my books!

(If you are like why is this print???, look back through the QTs: @chebutykin.bsky.social remixed revolutionary quotes to honor the folks in MN who've been protesting ICE using dildos, bc power hates to be mocked; I'm printing her remixes)

With apologies for the blue(sky) joke. (Seriously though, art is healing & so is laughter. Puns are inherently antifascist. I have a life rule to never inhibit sharing a pun, except in situations like someone's grief)

these prints are really coming together nicely. i didn't even get dildos on the tympan 😐😐😐

Digital collage of 5 styles of letterpress anti-ICE poster, including "Abolish ICE" in black and green on chipboard, "Wow my silence protected me so good :(" in teal and orange, and "Defund / Prosecute /Rehabilitate / Atone—" prints, which variously have "no hate" or "defund hate" picked out from their letters, or have "ICE OUT" printed in black on top of them. Caption says "Until I run out, I’ll have a variety of free anti-ICE / pro-neighbor posters anyone can take. (I’d love to get these shared out, if you want to take a pile to share with others—especially if folks are willing to place these where we can encourage others to be louder & not feel alone in this."

These are on nice paper & big—visible from your window!—is why they're only free if you're already funding using one of the larger mailers (not in a position to donate the cost of those rn). Planning to eventually print on smaller/foldable paper so I can send things for free in a standard envelope.

"THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE
Like all technology: human choice, if evil or good
This place is not a place of honor but it could be a place of hope
Refuge of arts, craft, community, learning, a megaphone for justice, fearless truth slipping bit rot & digital censorship;

From this place you may send words of justice, liberation, reparation, collective care;

A press is but its printers

All tech, pre-digital on, is only what we do with it??? You wouldn't say a codeshop is automatically just. These are only places of *possibility*—for good or ill. You don't stand on sacred ground—but you always are on ground *you* can choose to make sacred (or not) through just ("political"🙄) action

"Printing-Office" Remix: this is not a place of honor (but it could be a place of hope) Original writing, remixed with Beatrice Warde's "This Is a Printing-Office" and the Sandia Labs report on language to warn future...

Not a fan of "This Is A Printing-Office"'s triumphal "printshops are naturally good". My print remixes Warde's w/text from language developed to warn the far future off nuclear waste sites ("this is not a place of honor") + my own critical tech text ("...but it could be a place of hope") +

After actually converting units—Vandy Uni I limits = close to A2. I was about at the limit w/my 21" wide x 14.5" tall "Broken is a relative term" print, & did some tests that found the edge of longest printable form. (If anyone knows of rentable larger-bed presses, will make that a vacation goal...)

👀 not just Big Wood Type but a Big Press to actually fit it on?! (Love the Vandy Unis I use at printshops, but they are *not* big enough to fit an adequate aka large quantity of Big Wood Type)

Neat seeing where folks buying my art in the last week are from (16 states+UK); most often NY, CA, OH. Several of these fund specific mutual aid efforts (links in reply); I track these on a public Gsheet—just from a couple prints until I fund a printing press, then hoping to do more fundraising.

Printed the big broken text in Jan; to finish printing small text only in bits of whitespace, cut out empty space on a test print=>upside down on press, 🧲'd cutouts in place, removed rest; blocked around those & filled w/type. Running short of letters limited/decided wording many times #DHmakes

Finished a 21"x14.5" print edition I started @penlandschool.bsky.social in January, w/actual bits of broken wood type assembled to print “Broken is a relative term”. Smaller statements on human value under capitalism, identity, accessibility, craft & disability surround it (added via metal type).

1 week ago 7 2 1 3

I got the final title of the broken-type print done before the storm, but not the surrounding smaller text which was going to be re: broken is a term relative only to some specific function: who sets that function & why, what if we reject that etc.
