For what it’s worth, the Wild pay rent and payment-in-lieu-of-taxes at Grand Casino Arena, which is city-owned. But I hear you. Hospitals are not colleges are not museums are not homeless shelters. I do wonder if there’s a different PILOT rate that would apply to each type of entity, down to $0…

What if St Paul taxed nonprofits and it didn’t much help none no sir? Boston doesn’t raise all that much cash from its payment-in-lieu-of-taxes program, and it’s considered a top PILOT city. Damn, this is hard, pardner!
Lower my property taxes! I asked you how to do that — cops and firefighters still need to get paid, potholes need filling, swimming pools don’t chlorinate themselves — and you gave and you gave and you gave… Here’s 12 things you told me: www.twincities.com/2026/04/05/s...

Believe it or not, Pfarr did not go far. Sources say she returned to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office. Still waiting on confirmation from the office.
Hmmm. First-time homebuyer programs are pretty common nationwide. Not a ton of folks have $30,000-$80,000 in down payment money just hanging around. I got $15,000 in Obama stimulus dollars back in the day. That was 2010 and I’m still in my house.
For what it's worth, the core downpayment assistance program ($20,000-$40,000) is citywide, so this was an add-on to that.

After St. Paul expanded a citywide down payment assistance fund in 2023 to help descendants of Old Rondo buy homes there, one homebuyer “returned” to Rondo — and just one. Some bought elsewhere in the city. New program guidelines aim to expand eligibility: www.twincities.com/2026/04/01/s...

Both Her and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have echoed concerns from affordable housing providers who say that without firm deadlines, tenants falling behind on rent payments tend to fall further behind, compounding their financial distress.
St. Paul City Council last week approved a temporary 60-day notice requirement for landlords before they can file to evict tenants. Here's why Mayor Kaohly Her won't sign it -- and why it will be law anyway. You've heard of pocket veto? Call this "pocket approval." www.twincities.com/2026/03/30/s...

I don’t cover crime myself but I’m at this rec center 4-5 times per week. Theres more staff now, no access to lockers or the pool without being buzzed in one by one, and other tighter controls. Shooting was Jan. 2023. Parks and Rec director retired Feb. 2022, and other personnel has changed since.
