Day 7: Hulk
Hulk Gray - Cover by Tim Sale
#VinnieColletta would follow #JackKirby to #DC in 1970, originally doing the inks on his #NewGods books. However, Kirby would quickly tire of Colletta cutting corners on his art and even accused him of spying for #Marvel, leading him to be fired.
#VinnieColletta made his big break when he inked #JackKirby's pencils on #Thor, beginning in #JourneyIntoMystery #106 (July 1964). While his erasures remained a problem, Kirby & Colletta would establish the look of the character that continues to this day.
#VinnieColletta quickly gained a reputation as a talented inker but one who cut corners, frequently cutting pieces out of the original art. Artists like #NealAdams & #AlexToth loathed him but #JackKirby tolerated him.
#VinnieColletta got his start in comics in the 1950's on romance books, where he originally penciled & inked his work before focusing on inking. At one point, he even shared a NJ studio with legendary inker #JoeSinnott, who noted even then Colletta would cut corners despite his talent.
Great issue by #MattFraction & #RyanSook that finds #Batman seeking out #AlanScott, the original #GreenLantern, for advice on how to deal with #VandalSavage, who is now Commissioner of the Gotham City PD. What's worse, #PoisonIvy is now mayor.

By the 1970's, #JoeSinnott was #Marvel's go to inker, working with pencilers such as #JackKirby, #NealAdams, #GilKane, #JimSternako & #JohnByrne. It was so ingrained at the company that was said you weren't a 'Marvel Guy' until Sinnott inked your pencils.

Getting back into Legos.
There's gold in them hills!
At McKay's Used Books in Manassas, Virginia. A thread of comics⬇️
An interesting irony of #HerbTrimpe's career is while he technically drew #Wolverine's first appearance in #TheIncredibleHulk #180 (October. 1974), he doesn't receive creator credit because #JohnRomitaSr. had already designed him, as he was Marvel's art director at the time.
Saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Kieth. He was my kind of comic artist. His work was full of life and pushed comics into new and exciting places. I remember people not being fans, especially on Sandman but for me his work was beautiful and he will be missed #RIPSamKieth
#HerbTrimpe's big break was his run on #TheIncredibleHulk, first inking after #MarieSeverin's pencils before taking over with issue #106 on August of 1968. His run soon became one of the most celebrated on the character.
Battle Beast #7 is a solid setup issue — moving pieces into place more than delivering big moments.
Pulls back on the chaos for character work (Salaka + Zoolah), and BB takes a back seat. Still looks incredible.
3.5⭐️ — good, but more bridge than payoff. #ComicSky
#HerbTrimpe's first full length story would be #ShootoutatHookerFlat, written by #GaryFriedrich and appearing in #KidColtOutlaw #134-135 (May/July 1967). It would be the beginning of a brilliant career.
