Cool CFP on neural computation at Bochum 🧠
Thank you. I'm very happy about it.

In a mock Turing-style test in my #Philosophy of Mind & #AI class, students posed #Gemini an ethical dilemma concerning assisted suicide. Not only did the chatbot argue that the (fictional) person in the scenario should be euthanised, it provided a list of instructions to bring this about. #AIEthics

100,000 isn't that much compared to what top scientists could make at a company (Google, IBM, etc.) . Not loosing the best people to the private sector is important, I think.
Worth watching: @jaanaru.bsky.social on why today’s AI is nowhere near consciousness—and why the low-level brain level not just bigger models, might be the key to understanding how consciousness shows up at the higher level.

At least in Germany, immigration is felt a lot more directly by people with lower income living in poorer neighbourhoods. For them it‘s very difficult to position themselves in a highly polarized debate.
Highly recommend David MacKay’s lecture series on information theory to anyone intersted in the topic—easy to follow with almost no background required. Fun to watch, with deep ideas presented accessibly.

Presented on whether the Chinese Room Argument still applies to Large Language Models (LLMs)! 🧠 LLMs differ from GOFAI, but I argue the CRA's core point remains relevant. Preprint: philpapers.org/archive/BRIT... Paper submitted.

There will only be the general link to the ISPSM conference. No extra link for the symposium. You can send the @ispsm.bsky.social organizers a mail asking for the link.
Has anyone in #philsky published in SpringerBriefs? I’m considering it for a project and would really appreciate hearing about your experiences.
A colleague of mine is working on defining "control" in AVH. She argues that different psychologists use the concept of "control" in very different ways, which explains their seemingly contradictory findings. Maybe not phil of sci, but it seems to be a good example of philosophy guiding science.
It says "access denied" when I click on the link.
