Jodie is a new PhD students who joined us at the start of this academic year. Most of us consider Manchester to be north, but Jodie previously studied at @uniofstandrews.bsky.social, so has moved a long way south! Her PhD focuses on trying to understand how meteorites are altered by heat and water.
We previously posted profiles of other group members. You should be able to find them all on our Facebook and Instagram accounts

A couple of new PhD students joined our group back in October. Now they've had a few months to settle in, it is time to introduce them to the world. First up is Flo, who studied Earth and Planetary Science as an undergraduate before starting her PhD.

We had a great time at @sim-manchester.bsky.social on Tuesday! Huge congratulations to Khattab, Jacob & Mum, Heaton Family, Meteorite Masters and Jonesies who found all 12 of the meteorites in our Meteorite Hunt 🥇 And thanks to everyone who stopped to chat and have a go 🌝
We won't mention A and A's score 🙈
Thanks for visiting us, and well done to all!
We've got the scoreboard from our Meteorite Hunt at @uomscieng.bsky.social Fun Lab at @traffordcentre.bsky.social a couple of weekends ago (sorry for the delay). Team Stormtrooper were first to find all 12 meteorites, but were later joined at the top by Cataleia, Amirah, Shivansh & Banana Giraffe.
Full scores from all other teams to follow...
These are not the rocks you're looking for!
We were at the Trafford Centre yesterday with @uomscieng.bsky.social for a Space themed Fun Lab, and encountered some unexpected visitors! Storm Troopers are quite good at finding meteorites and were first of the day to top the Meteorite Hunt leader board
Closing out MetSoc with the final talk of the entire conference is Manchester's Thomas Barrett. His work attempts to visualise core formation processes using heating experiments of meteorites and x-ray CT scanning to look at melted rocks in 3D.
Delighted to advertise a collaborative postdoc position available in the lab to develop new proximity labelling tools, funded by a BBSRC Transformative Research Technology grant:
