Piping Plovers are back in New Jersey for the summer. Given how threatened they are (only about 8,000 adult birds remaining) and the conservation efforts NJ has made to protect their breeding grounds, I'm always excited when I come across them.

Would love to see a member of the President’s Faith Council make a statement in response to the documents released over the weekend.

Sadly, I expect no such statement will appear.

Without one, the exchange of truth-telling for proximity to power will be officially complete.

Christianity has adjusted itself much too easily to the worship of power. It should give much more offence, more shock to the world, than it is doing. Christianity should take a much more definite stand for the weak than to consider the potential moral right of the strong."

"Christianity stands or falls with its revolutionary protest against violence, arbitrariness and pride of power and with its apologia for the weak.—I feel that Christianity is rather doing too little in showing these points than doing too much.

I'm not sure I love trading Sproat and Jett for one year of Peralta (because you know Stearns isn't resigning him). Given the state of this rotation and Stearns unwillingness to spend, young controllable pitching is valuable, as is a young bat with positional versatility.

Theology 101: Now is not the time for date-setting and sign-seeking by end-times hacks and quacks. Now is the time for prayer and fasting for peace and justice, for walking in the Spirit, for loving our neighbors, and for doing to others what we would want others to do for us.

in a society that lives in illusion,

in a society that practices denial,

We are in God’s hands. Our lot has fallen on evil days: but that cannot be by *mere* ill chance. Take care of yourself in all due ways (aequam serva mentem, comprime linguam [Keep a calm mind, restrain the tongue])."

"How stupid everything is!, and war multiplies the stupidity by 3 and its power by itself: so one’s precious days are ruled by (3x)^2 when x=normal human crassitude (and that’s bad enough). ...

The reason why white evangelicals lose their minds over a non-violent interruption of their worship service and don't even blink an eye at a violent invasion of their neighborhoods is that they don't consider their neighbors as sacred.

Theology 101: I just won’t take “Christian nationalists” seriously until they start insisting on actual Christlike leaders not only in government but also in their churches and ministries.

People say AI is a magic shortcut to creativity & success. I’ll tell you the real secret and it’s voraciously reading, being interested in everything, being diligent in the pursuit of learning, paying attention to the interior lives of others & keeping a heart open to the world.
