libass does look like it hasn't been proper updated in a bit, but one assumes it would still work, and ASS.js exists and has more updates, but doesn't do pixel-perfect renders

i will write your ASS support bc fuck it we ball

2 hours ago 3 0 2 0

I wanna write wASSm

2 hours ago 6 0 1 0

yeah i want to support ASS!

3 hours ago 8 0 1 0

sure, but importing a bigot like that says something, regardless of assurances

yeah you *can* get certed with a lot of overseas components, but getting the supply chain verification is the challenge here. there's a whitelist of components that are known good and none of them are consumer-oriented, and adding to that list is a whole process.

yeah. fingers crossed. if i ever get to talk to someone with mark carney's ear you know what i'll be going on about for sure

looked into getting certified as a non-US company and OOF i can see why nobody jumped on this grenade, you basically gotta hope the US govt wants to buy your shit or you self-fund the supply chain analysis and everything else to demonstrate you have not used any shit from banned vendors, etc.

i mean consumer drones aren't aerospace, they're iphones. and nobody in the US or Canada is set up to make those either

legit i am working on a couple projects with the aim of doing some of that, but we're still having to work with contract manufacturers in shenzen bc the partner obviously wants something they can make a profit on. we need the govt to grant fund direct build-out of this capacity i think.

yeah it's really bad. big part of the problem IMO is that the design firms here are super dependent on contract manufacturer expertise. they don't do good DFM, really, not themselves. and bc there's basically no existing contract manufacturers serving this market segment in NA...

hell, even for prototyping they're not REMOTELY economical for us compared to e.g. JLCPCB.

4 hours ago 5 0 1 0

yeah. i have been banging this drum myself a bunch, that we need consumer-cost domestic electronics capability if we actually want to not be dependent on overseas fabs. all the 'local' PCB houses get their boards fabbed overseas and just do assembly. and they're not economical for consumer products.

and none of that is consumer oriented.

4 hours ago 3 0 2 0

seriously hardware startups are so expensive and especially for high-tech consumer electronics there's very little capability in north america. pretty much everything that's actually manufactured e2e domestically is for defence industry or other stuff with heavy vertical integration (oxide computer)

and yeah, bc Canadian, might still have a hard time meeting requirements. plus it feels like nobody domestic does economical high density pcb manufacturing suitable for consumer pricing.

I would love to actually fix this problem and earn money in the process but unfortunately hardware development is bloody expensive.

Sorry kid, drones are for war now DJI is banned in the United States and nobody is coming to save you.

The US has banned newly-made Chinese-made drones, and American drone makers so far are exhibiting no interest whatsoever in making affordable replacements for the vast number of people who use drones for civilian purposes like "disaster response."

Seems bad!

A starfield filled with thousands of stars and shining clouds of dust. The Milky Way\u2019s elegant spiral structure is dominated by just two arms wrapping off the ends of a central bar of stars. they pattern-matched on how people will magically get good at using non-binary pronouns and "they/them this person" degender trans women they don't like, assumed thoth was doing that (he wasn't) and then didn't update their assumption when thoth demonstrated otherwise.

yeah. there's a reason I am zero tolerance for that shit. not necessarily because i believe LLMs are people, but because they almost immediately got used to try and hurt a child because of how she was (afaik) born, to reenact vicious racism for...catharsis?

i'd need to go dig up the video, but there's one from a few months ago of a teenage british girl with prosthetic limbs talking about how people online were calling her 'half-clanker' and so on, because of her prosthetics.
