this idea that you have to have the most expensive and highest quality supplies for any kind of craft is classist and stupid as hell imo. it's abt the SKILL and TIME from the artist not the supplies. a true artist can make a masterpiece out of trash. slow hobbies shouldn't be for the rich only. 4/4
everything i've made with my lesser quality supplies has been good medicine n has turned out looking good. it doesn't look "professional" bc i myself am not a professional i'm just having a good time beading for myself. not everything has to look factory made ESP slow crafts ESP native beadwork 3/?
i use a mix of fireline, wildfire and some random knockoff shit i got from god knows where and they all work perfectly fine. i use thrifted beads, secondhand beads, walmart beads michael's beads any beads and they all look FINE. my needles aren't brand name i don't even know what size they are 2/?
i love beading and i'll only get better and better at it. it frustrates me to see people of any kind of physical craft try to say that you have to have the best tools and supplies to create pieces otherwise it's not as professional or not as good. i use secondhand leather, i use dollar tree cabs

recent keychains ive beaded :3 all 3 have mistakes but it's okay w me. i learned a lot from these and figured out what techniques n stitches i enjoy the most.
the 2 circles are pebble stitched and the heart is 2 needle flat stitch 🥰 all are backed with 2ndhand leather

It's tail is also see through and has a clownfish on the end that squirts soapy water like a pressure washer. It's forearms are made of water tube toys.

but i can at least honor my grandfather and continue the artistry he taught me and relearn art forms that he would have loved to see me make. i grow my hair for my pawpaw and i bead to continue the indigenous creativity he encouraged in me before he passed. maybe i can carve wood like he used to do.
i want my beadwork to be medicine for me, to help me connect deeper with my people and make up for the missed time when i was ripped away from the tribe as a kid. i won't ever have the same experiences as others who got to grow up with their indigenous family
i'm having a great time beading :] i recently read from another native bead artist on tumblr that they were taught not to bead when they're feeling angry or upset as the beadwork can carry those negative emotions with it. so now i'm trying to just bead whenever i feel neutral or better >:3
