My bike in the Paruparu valley in the high altitude mountains of southern Peru, on the way to climb Condorquina, the peak in the background. The solo expeditionary trip around the Quelccaya Ice Cap was quite memorable, the little girl sheppards out in remote valleys alone, an 85yo grandmother too.

A still, mirror-like pond, or perhaps you would call it a lake, perfectly reflects the low-lying mountains around its shore, with patches of snow and a low pass creating symmetric patterns on its surface that match the blue sky, the humps of the grassy mountains and the few clouds rolling past. The close shoreline is seen as an arcing crescent whose tips point away from the viewer, one each, to the mountains on either side of the low pass in the center. Blue sky, grass, and the snow of late spring create an artistic view of this simple alpine tarn nestled in a low point of a high area of meadows above treeline.

On a clear summer day a lone cottonball cloud sits above a large rocky peak shaped like the dorsal fin of a whale. The peak still holds some snow as it dominates the view of a lush, green mountain valley of meadows and forest. On a grey day with low clouds, sets of tall pilings are anchored in the large talus of a pacific northwest coastline seeming to prop up nothing but the sky above. A lone person appears small among them, looking to be only a quarter of their height. They are nearly silhouetted against a calm bay with islands in the background and a bit of light seeping through the clouds near the horizon.

Twin conical mountains with limestone layers rise above a trail runner that has stopped to take in the view on a trail with junipers and oaks. The spring day is clear and sunny, although the oaks have not begun to put on leaves yet.
An arc of rocks placed in a dry grassy meadow on the summit of a mountain amplifies the distance in the view shown across the Rio Grand rift with 3 sets of far off mountains subtly sitting on the horizon. The blue sky and strong sun don't reveal how cold it really was in the east breeze on the bare mountain top.
