You should be someone familiar with unity or unreal, and able to code, although you don't need to be an expert programmer.

Lots of testimonials on the website, but here's one of my recent favourites:
"Even fairly late in the project lifecycle, we were able to hugely improve build health, and are saving hours of dev and tester time every day"
- Dan Gronner, Lead QA, Nosebleed Interactive
You'll learn:
- The benefits of test automation for gamedev
- The fail-fast-fail-hard mindset, and the benefits it brings even without automation
- The tooling in your engine
- The 3 most useful test types and when to use them
- What tests to avoid
- Structuring tests so they survive long-term
If you want to iterate faster and ship more stable builds, you should learn about writing automated tests.
I'm offering a few one-day public workshop on test automation in video games, for both unreal and unity devs, Pay What You Want.

It’s worse than this because protected doesn’t even do what they think it does - it’s for encapsulation but there’s no constraint on who can derive this class and call it. It might as well be public.
Some cycle improvements from code agents:
- sharing prototypes instead of docs
- non-programmers making their own (throwaway) tools
- autonomous code reviews for the low hanging fruit
- a leg-up in unfamiliar code, reducing bus factor
Anyone focusing on AI gains in Lines Of Code is missing the point.
If that was useful, we would have been hiring programmers this whole time based on typing speed.
This post is the right way to think about things: cycle time, not output.

I can never understate how automated tests - not unit tests - using my custom framework have improved my productivity. Tests are focused on tricky code, unobvious behaviors or when combinatorial explosion would make manual testing redhibitory.

Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace in Project Hail Mary. He’s wearing a heavy knit Scandinavian (?) cardigan, creamy white with a knitted red Rudolph motif.
The musical kids got their elpheba sex cardigan. Now the space nerds get their grace science cardigan.
The people crave cosy knitwear.
If a game launches with bugs, it’s almost certainly not “bad QA”

It does?? Maybe I need to reply DS1 not on a Xbox 360 😅
I still suspect that the white ring lock-on from dark souls was programmer art. It’s so incongruous with the rest of the UI.

We're able to do a lot with a small team on Dosa Divas with the help of a bunch of custom tools like our TestRun tool built by Justin our lead programmer. The tool will autoplay through the game at a faster speed to check for any obvious bugs using Unity's built in Navmesh agent.
More than that. Halfway through you need to DEscope! it’s short-term painful but it’s super productive to focus your team on what’s important.
