So I really like where this ended up. All sounds / sequencing from within the case. Multigrain is providing just a bit of an almost echo… #ambienteurorack #eurorack #ambientmusic #synthsky

Piles and piles of loops. Multigrain again (some modulation this time), with an assist from MOODmk2. #synthsky #ambientmusic #eurorack #ambienteurorack #soundbath

Something about adding the sounds I hear while making the other sounds makes it all feel more real, I dunno.

First go with Multigrain. Nothing fancy, just a nice moment that made me pause and take a few deep breaths. #synthsky #ambientmusic #eurorack #ambienteurorack

It’s been an extremely rough couple of weeks. Just trying to keep moving forward and to get back to spending time doing this. #synthsky #ambientmusic #experimentalmusic

I remember talking with you about it some on IG!

And I would expect the opposite to be true for music written by hand. But this evening I listened back for the first time to a song I have been playing by hand for the last week or so and thought: this is a fucking sad song. And I didn't really have any idea while I was writing it.

For example, music that uses a sequencer and chance / chaos always feels "found," in a way. I know that I am happy with it when I like the way that it sounds, which in part I believe reflects how I feel, so: meaning. It doesn't feel intentional though, hence the feeling of having found it.

Thinking about meaning in music that I write is a slippery thing. I've always assumed that different ways of writing music—for me this might be fully by hand, or with a sequencer that leverages chance / chaos—would lead to different meaning intentionality, if that makes sense.

I’ve always hated my singing voice (alright alright you got me, also my talking voice) but now it strikes me: I could take singing lessons!? And I might.

Thank you. Might be one of those instances when I’d been listening to the sequence for too long 😅

I may get a pedal board for the desk to tame that area a bit! I also hate the pile of wires connecting the big desk to the patch bay, but I have one of those coil things to wrap around them, I just haven’t yet.

A music studio space with two tables. One table has in it a synth, some guitar pedals and a eurorack synth. The other has a mixer.

Over all the studio rewire effort has been a success. My hope was for it to help with productivity and also be tidy? Which is hard with all the wires. Aside from the mess of cables around the pedals on the desk, I am happy. #synthsky

Had a fairly non-existent night of sleep last night, which meant I was up with a coffee in hand well before I needed to be… so I sat at the Super 6 and ported to the sequencer something I’d been half-writing the night before. It is occasionally possible to find pockets of productivity.

Something else I’ve never done in a small eurorack before that is making a difference to me: having a second filter around. It’s great as a post-VCA EQ to control the high frequencies a bit. Also, noise modulation of the frequency in my opinion sounds better here than it does pre-VCA.

I 1000% don’t need an arc. But I sure want one.

This is the happiest I’ve ever been with a eurorack setup. It helps that it’s small, I think, and that the voice is stand alone, instead of spread out among 4 or so smaller modules.

My favorite setup lately has been this small eurorack synth and the Super 6. #synthsky #ambientmusic #eurorack #ambienteurorack

We all know in terms of supporting artists that Spotify is useless & buying a shirt is more helpful than 6,000 streams, but even just telling an artist you dig their work is more valuable —spiritually & I’d argue monetarily— than a stream.
You never know who you’re keeping going with a kind word.
