In need of Earthrise pics 😡😡😡
What an honor to be featured during the Artemis II live broadcast during their space weather segment 🥹

Looking up to see an aurora corona
The view from Artemis II before it transited the far side of the moon. Earth is barely visible over the limb of the moon.
The message from the crew before briefly losing contact with ground control: "To all of you down there, on Earth, and around Earth, we love you, from the moon."

So pumped that Artemis II will soon see the first total solar eclipse humanity has ever witnessed... from the MOON! Happening in one hour (8:35 pm EDT start of ecipse period).
Thankful for warm, clear nights under the aurora. This photo I captured around 15 minutes ago walking down a neighborhood street near my apartment in North Pole, Alaska. The aurora is still rip roarin’, but I have class tomorrow bright and early, so I’m inside now. Time is 1208 am. Good night!
Bright aurora tonight! Happening now from North Pole, Alaska.
Easter evening aurora right now above my apartment in North Pole, Alaska. Took a break from homework to grab this quick iPhone photo.

Here is a movie showing the difference one after the other... nice to see the propagation through the lower parts of the corona!
Adding in the COSMO K-COR coronagraph fills in the lower corona which is a crucial region to not only detect CMEs soon after they launch off from the Sun but also understand their rotations and twists as they are steered by magnetic fields before traveling further into space.
It's great to see that the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory has re-opened, and the COSMO K-COR coronagraph is online! Why does this matter? The image below is SDO AIA 211 Å base difference+SOHO LASCO C2. There is a gap between the edge of SDO AIA and the start of LASCO C2 due to the occulting disk.

Timelapse of the aurora over Fairbanks, Alaska from last night--take a look at the big burst of activity just after 3 am AKDT. If you think it's too late to see aurora in Alaska because it's already April, think again! We have about two weeks of solid aurora chasing left.

Stunning Easter aurora as seen from Yellowknife, NWT last night. Check out this timelapse from a webcam just outside of town there. April auroras are in full swing this week both in Alaska AND Canada.
Happy Easter, everyone! Here’s a photo of the aurora I took around midnight last night before I went to bed. We had quite a show later on in the night—will share the UAF all-sky timelapse so you can see the full progression.
After I captured this video, the aurora did explode across the sky as I thought in a beautiful auroral substorm. You have seen those videos now on my page in all their glory. Tonight’s aurora (April 5 into April 6) is a bit more subdued but still beautiful!

Beautiful aurora filmed with my iPhone camera last night—this gives you a better idea of how the northern lights like to your naked eye without the aid of a camera long exposure.
Another night of aurora starting already here in Fairbanks--a faint glow is visible on the northeastern horizon as the Sun sets in the northwest. April is definitely an underrated month for auroras here with clear skies, warm nights, and colorful skies!
This webcam and more are available on my website's list of webcams which cover Canada, Europe, Alaska, the Lower 48, Russia... you name it and there is probably a camera nearby. Bookmark the page if you haven't already: go.theauroraguy.com/webcams
Impressive auroral activity at Yellowknife, NWT last night, particularly in the start of this all-sky timelapse movie around 22:30 local time. Violet aurora is seen around 23:00. Remnants of the substortm over Alaska are seen streaming from the west around 1:20. Nice night!
Last night's aurora from Fairbanks, Alaska - check out this three-minute timelapse from the webcam at Poker Flat Research Range and the monster substorm at around 11:10 pm and another nice burst around 12:00 am. April is a great time to be in Fairbanks to see the aurora!
Tonight's aurora was pretty extraordinary. Here is a real-time video showing the rapid motion and vivid colors. All I could do while watching this was smile and laugh.. it's a pretty unique feeling seeing the sky move like this. Good night!
Incredible aurora tonight from North Pole, Alaska... here is a snippet of what I saw before things really got good!
I had end of the video to:
A. Take it all in
B. Notch down my ISO since the aurora was overexposing at ISO 16,000 on my 20 mm f/1.8!
Yeah...
