Fiona Banner’s Harrier in the Duveen gallery at Tate Britain in 2010, a Harrier Jump Jet hanging nose down perfectly on axis in the neo-classical gallery, at once completely alien and completely at home. An exquisite artefact, perfectly engineered floating in space, lethal and fragile in one breath, its nose just far enough from the floor that you could lie underneath looking up.
