The way he acts about the pro Phantom Thieves supporters reminded my kids and I of how Scomo was about the youth climate change activists.

Uruguay generates nearly 43% of its electricity from wind and solar. In 2010, the share was less than 1%.

Most of the rest if hydro.

Today, Uruguay produces nearly 99% of its electricity from renewable sources.

I love these birds SO MUCH-- they're amazing. You guys have some gorgeous wildlife in the US, trips me out that we don't hear about it more overseas! If I ever go visit the US, honestly, 99% of my wonder is gonna be about the birds I am not used to seeing!!!

Pigeons tend to respond 'at the edge of chaos,' study finds If you were rewarded for following a particular pattern of behavior, wouldn't you keep doing it? The answer turns out to be more nuanced than you might think. In a new study, University of Iowa resear...

My understanding is that most systems and organisms do best in that edge of chaos sector. Not too comfy to not innovate, not too stressed and distracted to fail to learn...

Different bird sounds starting with the ptarmigan

This makes me want to film and record my local birds! Our butcher birds have beautiful calls, too. Our currawongs and wood ducks sound quite haunting. And we get these migratory birds called koels which look goth AF and make this "Cooooeee!" sound.

I love birds. Could watch this all day.

This photo was taken five minutes ago. Same cat. Utter goofball. Loves his people, loves his food (and everyone else's food), is still very much baby and has his favourite humans (currently my oldest holds that title). He was wild born and petrified when I took him in. I am so glad he beat the odds.

The adorable white kitten on the left is Pedro. He was initially a foster, but we learned at about 10 weeks he had a grade 6 heart murmur and one of the chambers of his heart didn't work. We were told he'd probably live to 3 but if he made 6, that was amazing.

This picture is 11 years old. #cats

Walmart isn't a struggling shopkeeper.

There was a dude on an Aussie TV show here talking about being disabled and people being awkward about him because of his mobility aid. He said it made stealing stuff really easy, and good on him.

If someone can manage to get a TV out, undamaged, good on them. I'd admire the chutzpah.

I don't think you can blame *gestures around at everything going on in the world right now* on some people stealing.

Seriously, I wish you people kept the same rage for antisocial behaviour from corporations and leaders.

A lot of the shrink happens before products even arrive at the store due to things "falling out the back of a truck" or inventory errors.

Damage, not theft, is also a prime cause of shrinkage, too.

THIS. And if you see staff who might have them in their line of sight, you intervene by approaching the staff and asking where to find a product that they most likely don't sell in that store.

These guys were found on a main street between a music/tech store and a Chinese restaurant. Heaps of alleyways off that main street with restaurants in them.

Grime... It has that stickiness. 😥 Heaps of restaurants in the CBD here and the pigeons nest in the rooves/walls/etc and stay warm by the exhaust fans. I've treated a few birds with serious grease and a couple with tar stuck on their feathers. 😥

She got dragged because some soccer celebrity's kid got told to leave her alone by a security guard in the hotel. Chappell was staying at. Chappell apparently had no idea until soccer dude raged online about it.

I was just talking to a friend today about Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - new books every month, totally for free, for kids ages 1-5.

My son was part of the program - this is a copy of the letter that came with his last book, right after his 5th birthday.

I've had this one in my head and on paper and in files on my computer for YEARS. I keep going back to it and that convo about writers unintentionally having neuroatypical characters got me back onto it. And I am feeling the urge to write again.

Except he has no clues to go on as to the owner of the diary... It's got a name, but he doesn't know where it came from or why it's there or how long it's been there. But because he's a decent human, he wants to reunite it with its owner. And bonus: it's written in code. Without a cipher.

During a school camp, while hiding from bullies (after he's been blamed for starting a food fight in the dining hall) he sneaks into a maintenance cupboard, and finds a diary. He carries it out, because he sees it's got someone's name on it, and feels he needs to return it.

One of the YA novels I have started writing has a diagnosed autistic protag. He's in year six, has sensory issues, gets bullied mercilessly, and forced to do "social skills group" once a week. He's obsessed with cryptography, and he's cynical which is reasonable given the shit he cops from everyone.

They really are! I was thrilled to see them eating by themselves this morning but nervous leaving them when I went to work... But they had eaten up while I was out and were asking for more when I came in.

...good thing I was going out for book browsing on Thursday, huh? 😁

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.
