T-4️⃣ days until Vega-C will bring Smile into an almost-circular orbit around Earth’s poles.
From there, Smile will use its own engines to reach its final science orbit, which will bring the satellite to 121 000 km above the North Pole and down to 5000 km above the South Pole.

Since Artemis II executed its TLI (trans lunar insertion) burn, the craft has been slowing down. Just like a rock thrown straight up, Earth’s gravity pulls back on it.
At about 8pm Sunday, the gravitational pull from the Moon will equal that from Earth, after which the craft speeds up again.

As Artemis II continues its journey to the Moon, having passed the halfway point late last night, the next point of interest I’m watching for is when the Orion Spacecraft passes the gravitational neutral point and is more strongly attracted to the Moon than to Earth.

#Apollo6 (AS-502) launched on April 4, 1968 and suffered the loss of 2 engines in its second stage and failure to restart the J-2 engine when in orbit.

Two days after the Artemis II launch, we remember Gus Grissom, born on this day 100 years ago in the tiny town of Mitchell, IN.
He perished on January 27, 1967 during the pre-launch test of Apollo I. Due to his seniority, he would have likely been our first man on the moon.
