The world has realised that you can’t rely on fossil fuels - and are rushing to move from expensive coal and gas, to clean and green energy.
But Labor and the Liberals are going backwards.
The LNP is trying to help fossil fuel corporations jump to the front of the approvals queue - slowing clean energy growth to help oil companies and their bosses get even richer.
More money for gas shareholders won’t help people at the bowser today and it will wreck the climate for decades to come.
Labor hasn’t ruled out letting oil corporations skip to the front of the queue. Instead, they’ve reportedly dumped their 82% renewable target, just as the world’s rushing to buy clean energy made with Australian wind and sun.
Way to read the room.
This global energy crisis is a wake up call for the world, which has rich fossil fuel corporations terrified.
It’s a massive opportunity for Australia to become a clean energy superpower.
Labor and Liberal must stop putting the profits of coal & gas corporations before people & the planet.
The Greens welcome this ceasefire and hope it holds, for civilians in the region and for the world.
This illegal war needs to be a wake up call. It’s the result of the world willfully ignoring genocide and war crimes, and shown how dangerous the US is as an “ally”.
Labor’s reckless decision to back the US and Israeli strikes, send troops and missiles, and refusal to call out Trump has consequences.
Licking the boots of the US makes us all less safe.
End AUKUS. Close US bases. Withdraw Australian troops.
While Labor does everything it can to avoid commenting on Trump’s intentions, the US president is announcing to the world that his troops will commit war crimes. It’s time for Albanese to dump Trump, bring the troops home, and focus on helping Australians deal with the fallout of this catastrophe.
Albanese was among the first world leaders to back US and Israeli attacks, and ordinary people in Iran, the region and Australia are paying the price. Australia cannot stay hitched to the wagon of an increasingly erratic Trump, who even his domestic allies say has “gone insane”.
Labor must condemn these planned attacks on Iranian civilians and infrastructure, and they must close Pine Gap and get us out of AUKUS. We cannot allow our silence to reinforce the terrifying global consensus that targeting innocent men, women and children is permissible.
Today marks two years since Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom was killed by Israel.
Two years on, there has been no justice or accountability. Even the family’s most basic wishes of an apology from Israel and compensation to honour her life and support other aid workers have not been met.
Zomi Frankcom was not caught in the crossfire or lost in the fog of war. This was not some tragic mistake. She and her six colleagues were murdered by Israel.
Even the very basic demand that the IDF release the drone strike audio from the incident that killed Zomi Frankcom has gone nowhere.
