i wonder if AOC’s early clashes with the democratic establishment PLUS the unhinged reaction to her from republicans have given her some of the “both sides hate her so she must be Independent” vibe that goes a long way with low propensity voters
People should actually be very alarmed that while AP's business model is shot to bits, Americans are still very much reliant on the news it delivers. The alternatives in some cases are inferior or non-existent.

I like the part in Star Wars when things get real intense and the pilot guy says "This is one of the worst Star Wars!"
Cancer has historically been a disease of aging, but it has become more common in people under 50 in recent decades. Scientists are working to understand why the disease, especially breast and colorectal cancer, is striking more young people — and how it affects them differently.
Oncologists...how are we feeling about this framing?
Quibbles:
1. Cancer /is/ primarily a disease of aging.
2. A little surprised to see cancer referred to as "a disease" when it is many diseases.
3. Most cancers are becoming less common in young people with colon and breast being big exceptions.
I feel like people think that's true but really seems like people just kind of stink in general if they're giving total power. Kind of feels like a system where there are like checks or balance or something should exist but idk.

This is helpful! Thanks. Actually, I'd love your insight going deeper on this. Cancer seems like a very weird word to me because cancer is a population of individual cells. An oncologist friend once told me it was "a collective noun."
Do you have thoughts here?
Also "Heart disease" indicates a set of problems that affect the heart while "cancer" (to me) indicates an individual disease. Maybe we should call it "neoplastic disease". You can say that someone has "a viral disease" or even "a virus" but you don't say they "a disease" that is called "virus."
But to the plural point, "a disease" like "a fish" indicates one thing, not a group! To cite a previous tweet here, if you referred to "heart disease" as "a disease" that would sound silly.
I'm so sorry to hear about this. Going to the adult cancer ward as a 40 year old, I was always the youngest person in the room. Age is the primary risk factor, but of course cancer affects people of all ages and is particularly tragic in the young.
Y'all got a few hours left to get The Onion shipped to your house all year for $75. After that it resets to $10,000 per month or whatever the regular price is.

CNN headline “OpenAI isn’t just buying a podcast — it’s buying influence” which is a headline that reflects chatGPTs rhetorical ruts of escalating comparisons and weird em dashes.

Hegseth Says U.S. Troops Are Fighting for Jesus. The Pope Disagrees. In sharp contrast to the Trump administration's calls for Christian prayers for the war effort, Pope Leo XIV says military domination is "entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ." [photo of Pope Leo with this caption] Pope Leo, during the Holy Thursday Mass in Rome, said the Christian mission had often been "distorted by a desire for domination." Vincenzo Livieri/Reuters
the defense secretary who was plucked off a couch at fox news is arguing about jesus with the fucking POPE in case you’re wondering how things are going
(I shouldn't say far less because for many just knowing can help so much. I am falling into the same traps as everyone else on these sites by becoming hyperbolic.)
Yeah, the diagnosis is really far less as important as the treatment so if you're unhappy and unwell and can get help that's I think the important thing for people to recommend but we also live in American healthcare so.
Just occurred to me water is wet is the worst example because according to some people it is like water is wet. Lol. More like H20 is water.
Taylor is still learning more about psychology and the DSM stuff isn't an exact science and she's gotten ahead of herself but it happens. It's real and it isn't. It is(or isn't) a term that's just used as a diagnosis for maladaptive behavior. It's not like water is wet. But she's stubborn. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
