there's an app called stoat (formerly revolt) that is effectively discord again but without the bullshit. probably will be the easiest transition from discord to something else. i made an account, we'll see what happens.

what gets me is that discord seems to be forcing verification in ways that allow them to sell more data.

obviously, they shouldn't be doing this at all. but, if they had to, which they absolutely do not, there are methods that would be completely fine without forcing mass internet surveillance.

yeah so... that's it for me. i'm done using discord as my default. i'll probably go forward with signal, matrix, and irc.

i switched to zen browser following a couple suggestions here, and so far it's pretty great! it only has vertical tabs which is a challenge to get used to, but otherwise i think that it's a pretty good browser. i'd say it's worth a shot for anyone looking to migrate to a new fork.
