It is an opportunity for me to check in with myself, to challenge myself. I'm not sure I did that enough, or even at all, before I started reading tarot.
Ferdinand is a lovely reminder that I know who I am and that I'm going to find joy in embracing that.
But these things are placeholders for archetypes of behaviour, emotions, and experiences that live in the collective unconscious. I don't think it's a coincidence that I was drawn to tarot at the same time I started therapy.
It is funny how someone so sceptical and analytical as myself (and maybe we should throw in the adjectives stubborn, righteous, dismissive...) has found so much joy and comfort in tarot (and having my birth chart done by the lovely @litepaint).
Recently, though, I've noticed that this can cause friction with my own values and can often cause resentment towards others.
The Hermit is my natal tarot card, but I've often found it difficult to embody. I have a very strong sense of my own moral compass when it comes to a lot of things, but I love collaborating with others & this can lead me into something more codependent, more 3 of Pentacles: design by committee.
Lovely Ferdinand being 100% unapologetically himself (Queen of Wands!) and staying true to his sense of of inner light and wisdom in a noisy, noisy world (The Hermit).
My very dear friend @litepaint sent me this book as a gift. She and I are both have Taurus Moons and she thought that it might speak to me. And it does.

*I'm not certain that second picture is narcissus pseudonarcissus, but I can't find a record anywhere of other daffodils I bought that look like that. Surprise daffodil!
I planted these wild daffodils* in the orchard years ago but they never came up and I thought they'd been eaten by squirrels or rotted. But turns out sometimes things just need a bit of rest and patience to do things on their own terms.

(I'd just listened to the @radiolab episode called Everybody's Got One (radiolab.org/podcast/e0a4...) and, yes, I regularly give lectures to strangers about organs) and she was like: if you like placentae, you'll love Cat Bohannon's Eve.
It was recommended to me by a friend of a friend who came to lunch and got a lecture from me about how amazing the placenta is
This book is brilliant. And will turn everything you think you know about our bodies and behaviour completely on its head. The manosphere should read it. Everyone should read it.

Love this book. Love Emma Donaghue. Such a touching exploration of young love and how it stays with us, haunts us. It is so hard to write historical fiction and make it breathe the same air we do.
