The Cetti's warbler ( Cettía cetti ), prefers to stay hidden in dense vegetation, especially near water, making it easier to hear than to see. Its song is short and abrupt, often described as a sudden "burst" of sound rather than a long melody .

Had an awesome Easter weekend birding with @sandyhorne.bsky.social at Gluepot. To see the Mallee so green was a special experience. Had to work for the birds but came away with 3 lifers. This Chestnut Quail-thrush was a special find. #birds #BirdsSeenIn2026 #gluepot

Top view of a moth with satin white wings that have thick reddish orange lines down and across them
The change of the season was marked this morning by the arrival of the first Angled Satin Moth (Thalaina angulosa) of the year.
We see these stunning moths in the Perth Hills between April and June.

Great experience sitting watching this Ring Ouzel feeding on the weekend, it gained enough confidence to feed around my Wife and myself for 20 minutes or so. Pics before during and after eating the worm #birdingwales #birdsseenin2026 #birds
Photograph of a Spotted Dove, perched in profile and facing to the left. It is a fairly large brown dove with a demure blue-gray head, an almost rusty breast, and an eye-catching white-spotted black patch on its nape.
The first bird that I spotted in Hawaii was also the first bird lifer of my Hawaii birding trip last month --- a Spotted Dove at the Honolulu airport!
This is a non-native bird species, but still... What a fun welcome to the state!

Photograph of a Hawaiian Goose, cropped to showcase the head, neck, and upper back. The goose's head is in profile and facing to the left. It has a dark gray bill, black face and crown, a cheek the color of a lightly toasted marshmallow, a short buffy neck that appears grooved or striped, and dusty brown body feathers with thin light edging. The distant blurry background is a mottled light green.
The first native bird species of my recent Hawaii birding trip was Hawaiian Goose (Nene) --- there was a flock near the Kawai'ele Waterbird Sanctuary on Kauai.
Nene is the official state bird of Hawaii & endemic to the Hawaiian Islands.
