Dear Customer,

Thank you for being a longtime Kindle customer. We're glad our devices have served you well for as long as they have. Starting May 20, 2026 — 14 to 18 years after their initial launches — we are discontinuing support for Kindle devices released in 2012 or earlier. Here's what this means for you:

* You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.
* If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way.

Affected devices include Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation, Kindle DX and DX Graphite, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation.

To minimize any disruption, we're offering a promotional code for 20% off

Amazon are killing off their old Kindles - notably the ones which still let you remove DRM from their ebooks.
I suspect that it is also because they can't connect to modern TLS servers.
A shame, although I was only using it for stripping DRM.
There are a few […]

@rbairwell Gary's still in there. They've changed his introductory song and tweaked a few other bits. But basically still the same.

Some delightful updates to #AvenueQ in London. Most sensible, some shocking, all hilarious.

If you've seen the show before, you already know which bit got the biggest cheer of the evening.

🆕 blog! “Did WordPress VIP leak my phone number?”

As discussed in my last blog post, the scumsuckers at Apollo.io have been giving out my personal details.

Not only did they have my email address, they also had a copy of one of my phone numbers. I asked them where they got it from and they […]

Annual Benefit Statements

We are aware of an issue that occurred on the Civil Service Pensions Scheme (CSPS) member portal for around 35 minutes on 30 March 2026, affecting the accuracy of a small number of Annual Benefit Statements (ABS) generated in this period. 138 members either received personal ABS data belonging to other members and/or had their personal data seen by other members.

All impacted members will be written to by 9am on 3 April 2026 via secure message. If you have not received correspondence from us, your data was not impacted in any way.

This was identified quickly, ABS functionality was immediately suspended, and a full investigation undertaken.

Good news! The Civil Service Pension Scheme website can now show you an Annual Benefit Statement 😃

Bad news! Not necessarily *your* ABS 🙃

I've also raised a bug with Firefox. Android has a specific permission which will allow the browser to access the *full* location metadata of a photo.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2029620

Not sure if it is worth raising bugs for Chrome and Samsung as well. Can't easily test […]

@derickr Yes please. I've tried both and still can't get it to show geodata. I'm on Android 16 though.

Anyway, if you think the web should have a way to get the *full* photo a user uploaded - including geolocation metadata - please leave a 👍 reaction on this request github.com/whatwg/html/issues/11724

*sigh*

Looks like Android is stripping GPS EXIF from photos whenever they're shared.

Affects QuickShare / Bluetooth - https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/485307531
And the web photo picker - https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/40287342

Basically the only way to get geolocation is using […]

🆕 blog! “Someone at BrowserStack is Leaking Users' Email Address”

Getting rather frustrated that the latest Android strips location EXIF from the web file picker.

Doesn't seem to be any workaround that'll let you pick a photo and have a web browser see the geolocation.

Like, I get the privacy issues, but it is rather frustrating for location-based web apps […]

Hey, #WordPress fans - I've a knotty problem.

How do I display all posts *except* those with a specific tag?

I know I can display multiple tags with /tag1+tag2 or /tag1,tag2

But is there a way to say /!tag3 ?
