From Clickhole's "Incredible! We Asked These Astronauts What It’s Like To Be In Space," Barry Wilmore: You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.

Iran war hits supply chains for K-beauty, ramen and clothes Even potato chips aren’t safe from the ripple effects of President Donald Trump’s war, which is disrupting supply chains across Asia.

Japanese potato chips. Instant ramen. K-beauty cosmetics. School uniforms. Garbage bags.

Across Asia, far from President Trump’s war in Iran that has driven up fuel prices for Americans, companies and consumers are facing or preparing for shortages of everyday goods.

That's a ways away, but @bayarea-atproto.bsky.social should start thinking about it.

don't foresee having firm proposals until towards the end of the year at the earliest, but already starting to think about transition logistics

it’s likely that claude and bsky use a similar provider that is facing issues now - typically it comes down to amazon web services aka aws. claude is a tool some coders use to do their work, it’s not a tool a platform uses to make and respond to requests

I like a lot of James's framing for this.

Pack up and go where?

The other provocation I'd offer is what are we individually or collectively going to do about any of this?

If these spaces are important then how do we value and share them with others?

The long term success of an open network isn't determined by exponential or linear growth. People and connections come in waves. Each one brings new folks that stay to build on atproto, with code or words. The next stage will be marked by hundreds of waves, as websites become a web of social graphs.

As an educator, I support telling kids literacy is only for cool and edgy kids and grownups want them to rot their brains on social media and YA like a bunch of fucking nerds.
