Writing Tip:
Read between the lines of your feedback. Hidden issues might be the cause of your ills. For example, a writing suggestion might not work for you, but ask yourself why they're making that suggestion. There may be an underlying problem you can solve instead.

Writing Tip:
Never forget that you, the writer, are the one who gets final say on your project. Sure, others will give you feedback. Sure, that feedback should often be listened to. But in the end, you alone have to decide what changes are actually important.

Writing Tip:
Had a long stretch of not writing? Jumping right back into your previous rhythm isn't recommended. You gotta warm back up to it. It's like trying to run a marathon after several years off. Your muscles will have gotten a tad soft in the meantime.

The funny thing about traps is that, even when the party knows there's a trap, they can still set them off. Sure, the rogue might have noticed that tripwire in the hallway, but did they notice the pressure plate behind it? A lot of parties let their guard down after the first trigger.

Want a challenge in D&D/Pathfinder? Try playing a healer, but you're not allowed to use magic or potions. Mechanically, it IS doable, but BOY is it hard to pull off. I did it as a rogue once. Still one of my favorite characters to this day.

Creating min-maxed super characters is easy. Easy and, if you ask me, boring. As a GM, I'd rather have a wacky experimental character at my table, like a wizard that's only allowed to use 1st-level spells or a barbarian pacifist. You know, using a little creativity to have some fun.

Saw that #Starfield got a new big DLC drop. I'm... conflicted. On the one hand, Starfield had so much potential. On the other hand, it wasted most of it with big empty pointless planets and radiant quests. I want to give it another go... but I don't want to be disappointed again...

Just a little hint to you game devs out there, if your crafting system needs youtube videos or other 3rd party info in order to understand, that doesn't mean it's deep and complex. It's just poorly explained in-game to your audience. Maybe add a few more tutorials or details, yeah?

Can't wait for Zero Parades for Dead Spies. I didn't even know another Disco Elysium game was coming out until I stumbled upon the demo a little while back. And from the look of things, it's going to be the same wacky insanity the original was. Yes please.

A fishing hut on a lake of ice, with a stove and a rifle stowed inside.
When Great Bear got cut off from the mainland, ice fishing surged in popularity. Many would-be fishermen, however, didn't have the skill or patience to learn the craft, and resorted to bringing more dangerous firepower to catch their dinner.
It... didn't go well.

Rupert was the luckiest guy in the world. He survived a plane crash in Great Bear when that weird storm hit. Found a cave nearby. Lucky. He had food, water, even a computer that still kinda worked. Lucky again. Tried to light his campfire.
No matches.
Ooof. Bad luck.

Survivalist Roy had prepared for everything. A lone cabin on the edge of Great Bear, weapons and ammo, the works. He'd outlast the world. He did. Only then did he realize his fishing dock was iced in. No food. If only he could hit one of those damned annoying birds...

The funny thing is that I don't mind popular games. They can be fun. It's just that AAA dev studios have developed a reputation these days (at least to me) for being so focused on appealing to everyone that they end up being appealing to no one. That, and being super obsessed with their graphics.
Now that I'm thinking about it, my enjoyment of a game these days is almost inverse to how high-profile it is. I'll enjoy a AAA title, sure, but the more they obsess over graphics and FPS, the less time they actually make into ensuring the game's mechanics and story are actually fun. You know?
It's kind of insane how AAA titles these days are charging up to 100+ bucks for, like, maybe a 30-40 hour game, and then you'll come across an indie title for $20 that doubles that. Sure, game length isn't the only metric to consider, but every day reminds me more and more why I prefer indie stuff.
Background music in games can be great... but it feels like some devs don't understand how overused some music is going to be. I'm sure it's a challenge to make them, no doubt, but you need more than one music track for when combat starts or for the game over screen, you know? It can be grating.
I love a good zombie game, but I'm getting a little tired of the 'humans were the monsters all along' theming. It just feels so overused these days. Also feels weird blaming survivors for having to make tough choices during a literal apocalypse, you know?
Writing Tip:
Entertain the idea that what you wrote has merit. Don't just assume that it's bad. A lot of writers fall into that self-loathing trap. It's good to be critical, but it's important to know what you like about your writing. Because that's inherent value.

Writing Tip:
Write your story, not what you think others would want. Write what you want to show the world. Tell the story you want to tell and do it with sincerity. That passion will fuel your tale and give it a life of it's own.

Writing Tip:
Don't shut down an idea because you think it's lame or cringey. That might be how it starts, but even weak ideas can be polished into something great. Don't throw it out without giving due consideration. You thought about it for a reason after all.

If your players are stomping through an encounter you wanted to last for longer, there's nothing wrong with adding some sudden reinforcements. But you want to keep it balanced and not just blindside them though. Give them a turn of warning that someone's coming, for example.

One of the little joys of GM-ing is making pun names for everything. Your players will either figure it out immediately (and you get to enjoy their annoyance) or they don't figure it out for a while and that's just a gift that keeps on giving.
#D&D #TTRPG
As a GM, player shenanigans are oddly helpful for worldbuilding. For example, you might just flesh out the ranks of the local city watch because the bard announces that they want to try and seduce ALL of them during their downtime. You know, just for fun.

Been getting into #TheLongDark again after bouncing off it a while back. It's a game that's extremely frustrating going in cold (heh), but actually fun once you've seen a few YouTube videos giving you basic hints/tips. Don't know what that says about the game as a whole however...

A big thing about #OuterWorlds2 that frustrates me is that because skills are so extremely limited, it creates situations where I have literally no way to do certain side quests or optional content because I don't have that specific skill. As a completionist, that drives me mad.
🎮 #gaming #RPG
I know it's a bit of a nitpick, but I don't like how they changed the gear and weapons in #OuterWorlds2. As far as I can tell, they can't boost your skills, you can't purely upgrade weapons anymore, and all the mods all feel... underwhelming to say the least. Still fun though.

I've been having fun with hypotheticals lately, so here's one more: A mad wizard gives you a multidimensional vacation pass. You can use it to visit any single fictional world you want for one full month. You can bring back anything you can carry on your person when the time ends.
Where do you go?
Here's an interesting hypothetical: A shady billionaire offers a deal. They give you 24 hours to prepare before every ultra-wealthy person on earth tries to hunt you for sport. If you survive a week, you can choose one of the hunters and receive all their wealth and assets.
Would you take the deal?
Hypothetically, let's say that a crazy wizard comes up to you and offers you a deal. He tells you to choose a letter of the alphabet. He explains that if you can go ten years without using that letter in speech or writing, you get 1 billion $. Which letter do you choose? And what's your strategy?
Okay, serious hypothetical question: Who would be a fun character (from any medium or genre) to drop into Silent Hill? Who would be your pick to struggle through the fog/monster/puzzle-filled streets?
Follow-up: Would they survive?
