Hey everyone, this is an announcement I really didn't want to make. Unfortunately nurgle's rot (the flu) has struck our house and everyone is really quite sick*. Both to not infect anyone else, and because I'm very much not capable of streaming right now, I'm not going to be hosting the Jingle Jam quiz stream this year.

This is the first Jingle Jam quiz I will have missed in (I think) 7 years, and I'm really quite gutted about it. The quiz is always a highlight of my year, and apart from being a great fundraiser it's a ton of fun.

Fortunately the show will still go ahead, with hosting split between Boba and Harry. I wish them and all the tech team the best of luck. I know they'll do a cracking job and if I feel up to it, I'll be watching the stream with everyone else. ❤️

* fortunately pixel baby is over the worst of it, leaving us two sick adults to look after a newly-energised toddler 🥲

An excellent email I just received.

I feel like this has copypasta potential.

But that's not good enough.

Despair isn't helpful, and the people trying to obfuscate progress *want* you to give up.

The best we can do is take the hits and keep going.

Just keep showing up, and do your best.

Don't get me wrong, there have been reasons to be hopeful this month - see the latest IEA report predicting record renewables rollout, or the toppling of coal by renewables as the largest source of electricity.

But this has been an extremely bad month and this latest story has really got to me.

I think this might be the roughest month I've ever had as a climate communicator.

Well, scratch that. Someone who cares about the future of life on this planet.

This is just the shit cherry on top of a shit cake with shit frosting.

And it's only the 17th.

Time For CH4nge - The Shorty Awards An international award show that recognizes and celebrates the innovation and creativity in digital and social media, by brands, agencies, nonprofits and individuals.

The Time For Ch4nge film that I narrated is up for a Shorty Award!! It's a public vote, so if you fancy getting more visibility on the important topic of methane emissions, it would be greatly appreciated <3

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.

Should lying about climate change be illegal? YouTube video by Simon Clark

This year we've been really swinging for the fences.

Our latest video is our biggest one yet, nearly an hour long and involving half a dozen experts.

Asking "Should lying about climate change be illegal?" and, if so, how do we make it so?

That's from the BBC's coverage, I've not cared enough to look at multiple sources. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it was off, I know crowd counting is an inexact science

A character from the Sims crying in their kitchen

A character from the Sims crying in their kitchen

Getting angry at these people is like getting angry at your Sim.

It's not their fault that they have collapsed in a puddle of tears instead of making dinner. You have to look at the factors that led them to do that.

And fix them.

It's the same with climate skeptics. The people posting illiterate comments online are not the people that you should be angry at. The people you should be angry at are those manipulating illiterate people into acting this way, and of course the people paying them to do that.

But getting angry at these people is not the way that we get out of the political dichotomy the country is falling into. You have to look at the underlying issues and why these people feel this way and why they are choosing to make their feelings known in this manner.
