Here's a breakdown: Initial Radiation: The bomb released intense gamma rays and neutrons, causing immediate radiation exposure. This radiation was short-lived, dissipating within seconds to minutes after the explosion. Residual Radiation (Fallout): Radioactive fallout, primarily from fission products like cesium-137 and strontium-90, contaminated the area. Most of these isotopes have short half-lives, decaying significantly within weeks to months. Cesium-137, with a half-life of about 30 years, is one of the longer-lasting isotopes, but its levels have decreased dramatically over 80 years (by 2025, about 2.5 half-lives have passed, reducing its activity to roughly 15% of the original amount). In summary, for all practical purposes, the radiation from the Hiroshima bomb is effectively gone, and the city is safe. A very poignant and emotional documentary with interviews with “Hibakusha” - those who survived the #Hiroshima and #Nagasaki bombs

They were ostracised from society, only receiving health care from 1957 after campaigning.
