#OTD in feb 2000, Russia captured Grozny during the Second Chechen War. Following a brutal siege, the Ichkeria government was forced into exile. This victory shifted the conflict from conventional urban combat into long-term asymmetric warfare.

Couldn't find anything about his ultimate fate, but I'm going to assume he was never seen again after this interview. Sergei Artemov, the spokesman at the time and man in the cap in the video, along with some FSB ghouls probably know 🤷‍♂️

Some truly beautiful censoring of Basayev’s plans for OPSEC done by the folks over at the Kavkaz Center for the, I believe 2005, Majilis al-Shura meeting. I’m sure a heated debate was had over what color to use in MS paint.

Yassir al-Sudani was a relatively high-ranking figure in the "State Defense Committee" (Majilis al-Shura), having risen through the ranks since his arrival in Chechnya sometime between 2001 and 2003.
