用詩歌打掃良知 | 耶穌會中華省 慶祝世界詩歌日與國家清潔日有何關聯？它們都是透過「打掃」，淨化、修復內在與外在橫遭破壞的環境。打掃河流公園時能如同默觀，並將其透過詩歌抒發出來。而詩歌則能從觀察及關懷自然中汲取靈感，並從中得到滋養。在今日充斥大量訊息的時代，公共語言的清潔工作格外重要，一起來看耶穌會漢米爾頓神父帶給我們的啟發。 在澳洲，每年3月1日慶祝的「澳洲清潔日」(Clean Up Australia Day)以及3月21日的「世界詩歌日」(World Poetry Day)，乍看之下似乎毫不相干。詩歌日由聯合國發起，而澳洲清潔日則源自雪梨，也僅限於澳洲。打掃工作完全是身體勞動，包括清除水道及公園裡的垃圾。詩人的工作則牽涉思考、感受，以及尋找適合的用字遣詞。一個在戶外進行，且往往讓人聯想臉頰紅潤的年輕人；另一個則被視為室內活動，通常喜歡在圖書館舉辦，且與面色黯淡的長者畫上等號。 當然，刻板印象通常與現實相去甚遠。事實上許多詩人是熱愛置身大自然的年輕人，而許多熱衷參加清潔日的人們，無疑也喜歡寫詩。事實上，對詩及對清理環境的愛好，既相容也有許多共通之處。打掃公園與河濱如同默觀，且能將這種境界透過詩歌抒發出來。詩歌從細心觀察自然及關懷保育中汲取靈感，也從中得到滋養。 然而，往更深處看，我們可視澳洲清潔日與詩歌節，為社區對遭破壞環境的修復。這點在清潔溪流和公共場所時，再明顯不過。一旦水道與公園的垃圾、塑膠製品，還有其它因開發而留下的髒污被移除後，大地就有了前所未有的清爽。此外，社區民眾也在參加這種淨化的工作後，感到更為舒暢。 詩歌之於社會，同樣發揮了清潔的作用。個人及社會的語言日漸乏味之時，既隱蔽了意義，也被用來掩蓋惡念， 進而削弱公眾的交流和判斷。這在像前蘇聯這樣的極權主義社會中最為明顯，文字在那裡受到監控，並被強行套上與其所反映的人的真實(human reality)，相互矛盾的公共意義。忠誠變為背叛的職責，自由則被描述為奴役。當文字失去真義，語言也隨之腐化。 在這種社會中，詩人蒙受恐懼和控制，因為他們的天職正是聆聽文字，意識它們在何處被用來製造混淆與分裂，而不是溝通與團結，還有，他們在詩作中的用字遣詞清晰，單純而平等地溝通。他們揭露了毒害大眾傳播的謊言。
