“No Kings” Safety Tips
“No Kings” June 14th will be a nonviolent, peaceful demonstration and march. To keep ourselves safe, please follow the following guidelines:
• Nonviolence Means: Do Not React, Do Not Engage
If a counter-protest or agitator is trying to provoke you, ignore them as if they are invisible. They want a reaction, don’t give them one. Anything else will jeopardize our safety and the movement.
• Stay Focused on Our Message
No one has the power to distract you from why you are here; stay focused on our message of peaceful dissent against authoritarianism.
• Always Stay Calm: Use Grounding Techniques
Take deep breaths, sing a song, repeat a mantra, count to 10. This is called grounding. If emotions are running high, this is a good way to stay safe and focused.
• Follow Guidance of Marshals and Medics
Crowd marshals will be in yellow vests. Medics will be in orange vests. Look to these volunteers for any assistance or questions. There’s no need to interact with police; crowd marshals are your safety team.
• Give Police Space; Keep Your Distance
Regardless of your personal feelings about police, there is only one way to stay safe and peaceful: do not interact with police. Keep your distance; direct questions and concerns to marshals and medic volunteers instead.
• Remember: Nonviolence is Strategic
If we react to provocation, the media will only see that as “both sides” are violent. If we remain calm, remove ourselves from confrontation, and ignore agitators, we will not only stay safer, but allow our movement to grow.
We look forward to seeing you and thank you for helping us keep each other safe. All of our demonstrations have been peaceful, and June 14th will be no different.
Remember everyone - #NoKings is a PEACEFUL protest and march! We’re trying to #saveamerica and #GrowTheResistance, not start a civil war.
