As Jackie fed the eaglets their 4th breakfast, Shadow seemed to think it was his turn to parent. He sidled onto the nest & eased himself onto the eaglets in mid bite. Jackie left him to savor his time with #1 & #2.

After evening nestorations, Jackie was quite clear about wanting romance ~ including loud declarations and neck nibbles. Shadow was not quite ready and continued tinkering. They made up for it later behind closed branches.

A juvenile eagle followed #Shadow to the nest hoping to share some of his lunch. Shadow, of course, wouldn’t hear of it. Later, #Jackie arrived for nestorations and mating. Fingers still crossed for a second clutch.

A snow-covered nest did not keep Shadow from delivering a fish gift to Jackie nor did it keep her from happily collecting it. Shadow also delivered a stick, requiring some placement negotiations. Bonus: snowy beaky kisses.

It was a sad day in Big Bear. #Jackie&Shadow were away from the nest for nearly 4 hours. Only they know why. In that time, ravens made multiple visits and ultimately breached both of the eggs. Hope to see a 2nd clutch.
